or they could just limit it to one unit of an allied faction per army.
'Army In A Box' Sub-Factions

I can see that working rather well, and make it to where you can only ally with one other faction?
I like the idea a lot for smaller factions. It'd be easy to have some cross over by allowing certain things to work with major factions too.

Droids:
Commander: Super Tactical Droid Kalani
Corps: B1 Battle Droid, B2 Super Battle Droid(soldier upgrade for B1 Corps similar to the upgrades for Stormtroopers and Rebel troopers)
Special Forces: Buzz Droid, BX Droid Commando
Support: Droideka
Heavy: Vulture Droid (Walking Mode)
These have all been mentioned in some part of the GCW era canon and could have an interesting set of interactions with each other that would make them a unique faction. The Vulture Droid could have a missile upgrade that you spend to deploy a Buzz Droid group within range 1 of an enemy formation. They would be a swarm type army with the corps containing 5 B1 Battle Droids with 2 extra B1 slots and 1 B2 slot. Droidekas could have a shield Mechanic that would be similar to armor but be susceptible to melee weapons and grenades as well.
That's an interesting idea, although I would still like Tactical Droids as nameless commanders, and the reason being for me wanting nameless commanders in the 'Army In A Box' factions is so you can take multiples of one commander (Because I know you can take atleast 2 in a list).
It'd also be interesting to see the Vulture Droid get both a Walking and Flying mode (with some clever editing on the model mechanics so you can switch it between the two poses), and have it to where it has to move a certain distance when in Flying mode, but when in Walking mode it can remain stationary.

I was thinking more along the lines that the army could only have 1 unit not of that faction, so it would be essentially the same thing. I would word the rule like.
"You may replace one of your Corps, Support, Spec Ops, or Heavy units with an equivalent unit from an allied faction."

as for the commander, I would like it too, though its not clear that they will do generic commanders. That's why I put the named version.

That's fair, although I wonder what a named Tusken Raider would be?
there is a named one in "From a Certain Point of View". I can find it when I get back to the book.

This is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my entire life.

Right? You might also enjoy other Tusken names, such as;
KkH'Oar'Rrhr
Grk'kkrs'arr
And of course his (probably not really) cousin, UrrOr'RuuR.

Hmm, I think if I were to name my Tusken Chieftan, based on those names, it'd be
KrrR'GuRr'Urkk

I just looked in "From a Certain Point of View" in the Rites chapter and there are several named raiders.
A'Yark is the chief of one of the clans
other named Tuskens:
A'Koba
A'Vor
I'm not sure if someone mentioned it, but another minor faction could be Saw Gerrera and his partisans. This could be an Alliance sub-faction that could be similar to an Imperial sub-faction of bounty hunters/scum/villains. Having a diverse Saw Gerrera faction would be fun, especially if they made up for their low numbers with hit and run tactics. This could include having the ability to hold squads off the table and deploy them in surprise attacks. Their uniforms could be a mix of imperial, rebel and other items from the star wars universe:
Also note that he has what looks like a smoke grenade that could be used to conceal a squad for a turn
grammar
That'd be interesting, although if they were made as an 'Army In A Box' faction, I think they'd be one of the later ones (As in, after a few of the more recognizable mini-factions were added)
Here's a fun little Army In A Box idea I just had -
Ewoks
Really Swarmy, with even their Gliders and Catapults being in squads of 1 - 3.
Commander: Ewok Chieftain, Chief Chirpa, Logray The Shaman
Corps:
Ewoks
Special Unit:
N/A
Support:
Ewok Gliders
Heavy:
Ewok Catapults

WOOKIES
Probably a weird one, but I wasn't quite sure what to give them. I can see them being fairly elite, with 4 Wookie Bowcasters costing 60 points and having 2 hp each. The Berserkers would be melee specialists, and would be exceptional at close combat, and the Speeder-Bikes would basically just be a way of fleshing out the Army a bit more, and seeing as to how the Wookie Ornithopter is the only canon vehicle for wookies we've seen on the big screen in a small glimpse, I think they'd be a nice Heavy addition.
Commander : Chewbacca( Different From The One the Rebels will likely recieve), Wookie Chieftain
Corps: Wookie Bowcasters
Special Forces: Berserkers
Support: Wookie Speeder-Bikes
Heavy: Wookie Ornithopter ( Raddaugh Gnasp fluttercraft)
yes! amazing idea! I would enjoy leading a small army of wookies with unspeakable names! Grrraharawahaw!!!
I'm thinking a Nightsisters Army In A box could be possible, although we've only seen them in TCW in terms of canon, so that's a bummer.
BLACK SUN SYNDICATE
Not super sure how they'd play, but people were mentioning them so I thought I'd try finding some units that could be put into their Army In A Box faction.
Commander:
Boss Gyuti, Underboss Rynscar, Crime Boss
Corps:
Black Sun Mercenaries
Special Forces:
Black Sun Bounty Hunters
Support:
Swamp Speeder
Heavy:
A519 Invader
(Close Support Starfighter)

I'd make the Catapults their Special Unit and give them the Ewok Battle Wagon for a Heavy

Beautiful.
....ewok battle wagon..... ....oh mein gott....
I wouldn't mind playing as an army of Jawas
Just imagine it now
JAWAS
100% Joking here, but if they did to Jawas, I assume they'd be heavily focused on random droid squads that can be repaired and upgraded throughout a match with jawas.)
Commander
: Jawa Chief
Corps:
Jawas
Special Units:
A Squad Of Droids. (
like, a 3 man squad of droids made up of different options with different roles
)
Support:
A Big Droid
(Not being super descriptive with these cause I'm not sure the kind of droids that would be here)
Heavy:
Sand Crawler
EDIT: Honestly, I was thinking having the two droid units as 'build-a-droid' squads (sorta like cobbled together junk and what not) would be neat, with biggish model kits to be built in various ways
Alino....you are one crazy mad hatter!....keep it up!!
