The big geeky question of 2017-2018

By RocketDarth, in X-Wing Off-Topic

This is a big geeky question for all of you geeks out there. Which are you more excited for, Avengers: infinity war, or the last Jedi? I know, it's a tough question, but one that I feel is worth asking. Get hype for last Jedi (Dec. 15) and infinity war (May 5)!!!

I have to say it's still Star Wars. I don't think it's going to be the best movie ever, but like 99% of Star Wars is a prequel of some sort, so it's nice to finally have a story that's completely open-ended! That's why I was one of the very few people who liked Legacy.

(and I'm probably biased because I'm on an X-Wing forum and also getting a little burnt out on how many Marvel movies there are)

The Last Jedi. I've only seen Iron Man, Ant Man and Thor of the Avengers films.

Avengers. As they bring more of the universe into the movies the films are getting better and better.

TLJ will surely be fun but it's small scale compared to the universe Marvel built over the past 10 years.

For me star wars was always a great game to play and marvel was a great watch/read. Marvel is still a great watch, but star wars has been a let down in recent games leaving me less enthused with the brand.

TLJ, never got into superheroes at all.

Last Jedi.

Outside of RDj's Iron Man and New Spidey, I just don't care about Avengers at all.

Star Wars. Duh.

TLJ. The only reason I even bother with the MCU is for the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

Last Jedi over Infinity War, no contest.

Changing the question to 2018 only: Han Solo or Infinity War? They will be in theatres at the same time. If I could only see one or the other, I would pick Infinity War.

Hmm... a Han Solo movie with an actor who's older than Harrison Ford was in the original Star Wars movie and looks nothing like him, a Lando actor who looks nothing like Billy Dee Williams, and that will probably change and ruin everything we know about Han, Lando, and Chewie?

Yeah, I might go for Infinity Wars there.

Avengers: Infinity War

The Star Wars universe is a great one, and I like where the ST is going, but the new Avengers movie reaches back into my childhood and throws in on the big screen. I was introduced to Thanos in The Infinity Gauntlet series in '91. I honestly can't wait to see him murder the Marvel Cinematic Universe* in IMAX. They've been building up to this point with all their movies for the last decade and I need this payoff.

*Of course this story involving the Time, Reality, Soul, etc. gems means any death is potentially reversible. That's comic books for ya. Keep an eye on Nebula.

I agree with you about needing the payoff from the Avengers: Infinity War. I only hope that the movie does the '91 comic justice - which I still have by the way and reread from time to time. That being said, I was a little lad of 5 years old when the Star Wars phenomenon first began and it has captured my childhood and everything else, since. So the answer for me is The Last Jedi.

Jumanji!

Errr ok actually it's Last Jedi.

Mostly because It actually came out today (prolly gonna see it this or next weekend) while infinity war is somwhere in april next year. I'll get excited about it then.

Also I can't be the only one who feels infinity war would have been better with the X-men and F4 in it. Wasn't Disney buying back those licences?

War!

Ok, this is a loaded question for me.

1. Marvel has found a stride and consistently puts out quality movies with great actors in a cohesively expanding world. I really love some of their characterizations. I've found none to be bad (but Thor 1 and 2 and Avengers 2 are my bottoms), and some truly great. I'm a Marvel kid, but the lack of X-men bothers me, though that should be fixed soon.

2. My heart holds Star Wars in a higher regard. Also, I LOVE Rian Johnson's work. Brick gives me chills and Looper is genius. When I heard he was directing TLJ I got very excited, as I thought he could do it right. TFA came out and while enjoyable, it wasn't as good as the best Marvel movies. I feel the same about Rogue One, although that battle was epiiiccccc. But trying to staple Star Wars trilogies together given the time gaps and missteps seemed a hard task.

So I would've said Infinity War... until TLJ reviews started pouring in and unanimously claiming best since Empire... I knew the pieces were there, but I was afraid Mickey's stranglehold could prevent this beautiful cocktail of director and subject, but my faith is renewed and I'm Star Wars all the at way.

TLDR: Infinity War until TLJ reviews started coming in. Thanks Rian Johnson.

*********** please note: now that TLJ is almost here please don't post any spoilers for the sake of those who haven't had a chance to see it yet. Thanks!

Definitely Star Wars.

The Marvel movies are OK, but I tend to hold off on viewing them until they have Rifftrax available.
