Push the Limit and Primed Thrusters

By Glyph, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I need some help understanding how these two cards interact while a Red manoeuvre is involved.

Push the Limit
Once per round, after you perform an action, you may perform 1 free action shown in your action bar.
Then receive 1 stress token.

Primed Thrusters
Stress Tokens do not prevent you from performing boost or barrel roll actions unless you have 3 or more stress tokens.

Can you guys tell me which of these are the correct way to do things:

Option 1

  1. Ship performs a red K-turn.
  2. Check Pilot stress and apply a stress token as the manoeuvre is red.
  3. Primed Thrusters allows me to do a Barrel Roll even though stressed.
  4. Push the Limit would not be able to take a free action normally as I'm stressed, but Primed Thrusters allows me to make a Boost while stressed.
  5. Apply second stress from Push the Limit.

Option 2

  1. Ship performs a red K-turn.
  2. Check Pilot stress and apply a stress token as the manoeuvre is red.
  3. Primed Thrusters allows me to do a Barrel Roll even though stressed.
  4. Push the Limit would not be able to take a free action as I'm stressed, regardless if Primed Thrusters allows me to make a Boost while stressed.

Option 1 is correct. normally you can't take actions whilst stressed, free or otherwise, but PT gives oyu an option for actions you CAN take whilst stressed, and PTL gives you a chance to do so.

Okay. I was just confused whether or not PT's "barrel roll and boost" exception would come into play or not due to the stress stopping the free action.

PT still allows it, but you'd want some serious gain to doing so by double stressing yourself considering pt's 3 stress limit
