Ships Worthy of More Than Two Of

By DesignXception, in Star Wars: Armada

My Armada collection currently consists of two copies of every ship released to date. I admittedly have not played much yet but am looking to bolster my fleet with a few more purchases. For those of you who have a lot more experience playing different lists, what would ships would you recommend having more than 2 copies of in your fleet (both rebel and imperial) to give you more competitive build options. Say 3 or 4 copies of. Thanks in advance for your opinions and help.

Any small ship, squadron pack, or flotilla is easy to field multiples of in a fleet. I really enjoy swarms of mc30s and Glads but I love black dice fleets so ymmv.

Competitive: MC30, Hammerheads, CR90, Arquitens, flotillas. That is all.

Less competitive: Liberties, Raiders

Cheap corvettes like Hammerheads, CR90s, and Raiders, come to mind immediately. Some fleets (usually squadron-based) can get mileage from 3-4 flotillas, too. 3-4 squadron packs can occasionally be useful, although I'd say that applies moreso to the Imperial/Rebel 1 packs than Rogues and Villains or the -2 packs.

Hammerheads - 4

Raiders-3 in niche cases

MC30s- 3 to 4

Flotillas,of course, but I can't see why you'd want more than 3.

CR90 - 4

Arquitens - 3

I can't see why you'd want more than 2 of anything else.

I'm a minimalist myself.

I'd just make sure that you really want to play a list that has more than 2 of one of these ships before you actually commit to buying it. In this game, you get a lot of utility out of combined arms, so there are a lot of these that I don't have a huge number of copies of. The CR90 is one that you could go to 3 or 4, because you can still fit them into a list with a medium or even a large ship. I own 3 MC30s, which I've fielded before, but again, I'd be certain you want to play a list more than a few times that has all three of them in it. I have 4 Raiders because I came in during wave-2 and I'm sure it was worth it then. It has been a long while since I've put more than 2 on the table. There's currently enough in the game surrounding Hammerheads to make me want to buy the second pack of them. I think I have 3 Arquittens, despite rarely playing Imperials, but it was probably worth it to pick up RBD, and like CR90 spam lists, one could see 3 Arquittens being useful in the right Imperial list.

Definitely flotillas.

Buy them out. all of them.

Massed CR90s, up to 8, is lots of fun.

Three of each flotilla on either side is a reasonable maximum. There are lists that make good use of more, but they're outliers, and you'll know if you want to run them.

Same with more than 3 MC30s. I'd say 4 is the most I've ever seen used effectively, but again--you'll know if that's you.

Other than that, just the squadrons. I've had need of up to 4 of each squadron pack (I don't own 4 of each, I borrow when I need to): 8 A-wings, 8 Y-wings, 7 B-wings, 8 TIE Bombers, 4 YT-2400s, 4 Firesprays, 8 Phantoms, 7 TIE Defenders... I still haven't gotten around to fielding 18 Z-95's yet, but mostly just because I don't think I could scrape that many together. :)

Do you write articles for Bell of Lost Souls? Because that is the only other place i've ever heard of someone thinking of running 18 Z-95s....

Buy what you like to run. I honestly don't care if it is Peltas. I have 5 Neb. Bs, three came from core sets, but the fact of the matter is, I like Neb Bs, and every now and again I pull out a full gunline of them.

This may be a little controversial, but MC80 Liberties.

Borrow a couple and then play a game running 3 of them with Madine, engine techs and whatever other upgrades you like (i like having overload pulse, DTT's and X17s for a total of 399 points).

Having 3 large ships that fly at an effective speed 4, turn on a dime, shut down defences, manipulate dice, ram for 2 damage and stop your opponent from using redirects is kinda fun.

There are also a lot of excellent and rare cards in the pack, such as skilled first officer and spinal armament.

I've actually found some ships fly better together because of how they're limited.

VSDs for instance, doing two flanks. 2 or even 3, get better returns than their cost.

Solitary and alone:
ISD, Demolisher (backing it up with another Glad or any other ship is ok though), Liberty, Neb, Pelta, Interdictor, Quasar

Pairs:
Raiders, VSDs, MC80 (kinda), Pelta (kinda??)
Good but not due to movement considerations of flying together: MC30s
Conga line, restrictive: AFs, Arkittens

Triples:
ISDs, Transports, AFs

Multiple, but don't really care either way:
Cr90, hhs, Gozantis

BoLS?!? Sir, I am offended and demand satisfaction!

Also, I'm pretty sure I saw that somebody actually took such a beast to a tourney over in @shmitty's neck of the woods. It may have been @Admiral Theia? But I'm not sure...

Sounds like one of those fleets that you walk up to the table and say, "I'm so sorry for doing this to you..." while pulling out your ships and cackling.

I have at least 2 of everything as well. I’d suggest a 3rd squad pack (of each). Snag a 3rd GR and Gozanti for sure too.

After that, it’s really about preference. I have 4 mc30s, 5 raiders, a couple neb-bs and a few cr90s. (The raiders only ever got used 5at a time for a single tournament, same for the 4 mc30s, but it’s always good to have supplies should other players be short, or a new player wants to test something).

The idea is ridiculous all on its own -- you either go for the full 19, or you take 17 and Blount. Why would anyone run 18?

The list they had there seemed... Sub optimal in my opinion. IIRC, it was 3 Peltas (only one of which had AFFM or any command), Leia, and 2 GRs. It might have been 2 and 3, but the point was the same. I was..... Not a fan of it, personally. In my OPINION, it wasn't leveraging Leia for anything beyond "push 18 z95s" which sure is technically a thing you CAN do. I again state my lack of appreciation of the list.

And that's as PC as I can get about THAT.

Why wouldn't you give yourself the option of running 3 ISDs?

Because the Chimera pack is on its way soon.

Well alright 'soon' may be a little optimistic.

I sold one of my 3 ISDs to a rebel player who has realised the error of his ways. This is so I can buy a Chimera in the new year and run 2 ISDK + ISDII.

Real post: Flotillas, CR90s, Hammerheads, Raiders

(Wave 1 only) VSDs, Glads, AFIIs

Arqs too, I guess

Well I'd say HH they love to be in a swarm

Hammerhead - come in 2's, so getting 2 packs gives you 4. Probably enough for anything you'd ever want to do with them.

CR90 - This thing is a great filler piece, but also a cheap corvette that you can build lists around. Having 3 or 4 of these isn't a bad idea if you are willing to run swarms of things.

Flotillas - Having 3+ of the flotillas can be useful. They are good for activation padding, squadron commands, etc. Due to their usefulness and cheap price, you can see 3 or more in some lists.

MC30 - Running 3 (or more) of these can be pretty intimidating.

Arqs and Raiders can run more than 2, but it's not common (at least from my experience).

Larger ships can run more than 2, but again, it's not common, and you run the risk of having 3 and them releasing a repainted version giving you 4.

8x rogues and villains for 8 yt-2400!

I'd honestly save your money. I own close to two of everything and I'm rarely hurting when it comes to list combinations. Unless you're really set on building that 5 GR-75 fleet with a Mc80 or something, you can probably have fun with 2 max.

FFG set a new precedent that they have no problem releasing a repaint of a ship and with the Chimaera, you get enough cards to field 3 of them.

If I were to own 2+ of anything, it would be fighter packs and Mc30s. Those things are just cool.

I get one for each title so for some (Interdictor) I only have one, others (ISD) I have three. The only time that I have issues making lists is when I am supplying ships for more than one player (and the Interdictor is still never used).
