Space Superiority "Silencer Preview"

By Tbetts94, in X-Wing

FCS + Threat Tracker is a neat little combo they showed us. I'd like to try it on Omega Specialist, but shooting later and lacking Boost hurts that combo. Seems like it's tailor made to the TIE Silencer. Still worth exploring in Special Forces TIEs I think.

Their example has it kitted out for 45 points. Not sure I'd want a non-regen ship with only one attack taking up almost half the squad points. Also, it contains a lot of situational upgrades on board. I don't doubt some vassal nerd will find something broken about this ship, but for now it's just meh. Soontir is still way cheaper and will be more nimble.

Soonts is cool and all, but can’t equip Advanced Sensors so won’t be nearly as nimble as the Silencer, not to mention AS Silencer is effectively immune to being blocked.

In real life big warplanes are not less maneuverable then smaller ones. Look at Su-27 or Su-35. They are one of the biggest modern fighters and they are maneuverable as ****.

If you read my later reply, you'll se that the agility is not my gripe. It's the size. While everyone else is zooming around in their Mustang or Ford equivalents, Kylo turned up in a Hummer, and a very agile one no less, with a TON of empty seats. It's dumb, the size of his ship., given that it has no extra hull or shields compared to a defender. The only good resons for it, as far as I can see could be...

1. "Perceived value" - FFG are THE experts at this, but the size has to be Disney's call.

2. No evade ability. Doubtful that Disney care...

3. Surplus nonvital mechanics for Kylo to break when he gets angry. About the same volume's worth as an X wing, by the look of it.

You know it's number 3!

I am glad FFG is learning. After horrendous power creep in jumpmaster form I like their attitude of careful design. Silencer is good, it has sick dial but it comes at the cost. And it is good.

On a whole; the next 5 ships that are coming; are balanced.

Emh... "Tremendous" firepower?....

Dear, FFG, you haven't played your own game for a while... Have you?

Unless they have and this is why everything is been brought into line.

Fine, but then don't use the word tremendous.... Use 'decent'... or 'standard'... or even 'weak...ish'.

i really dont get why its so big though if it has no ordnance or crew.

Exactly my thought. It's one attack with 3 dice (more often than not). For 40-odd points, it's going to be an expensive 1 attack.

Yeah because that would sell units........the article is there to drum up interest.

the words you used won't do that. **** even this discussion between me and you has achived what the article is meant too which is to get people to talk about the ship.

Mustang. Curb Wgt 3,500 lbs. Seats 4.

Ford (um, larger subset of Mustang, but whatever). So let's say Ford Focus. Curb Wgt 3,000 lbs. Seats 5.

Hummer. Curb Wgt 6,600 lbs. Seats 5.

Not seeing much of a correlation between size and seating capacity there. . .

The hummer can fit Jabba as a passenger is the difference....

A vehicles/fighters size could easily be explained by its deployment range/duration and hyperspace speed/CnC-comms ability

If Kylo wants creature comforts more like a transport and a full communication suite and a fast ship with good supplies... that all comes at a space premium.

Reading the article.... "...it's too long and large..."

And just wait until the movie is released, when we'll see this thing launching missiles left and right, and also firing from the wingtips...

In all seriousness, have you seen the inside of a H2? It is a massive vehicle with a very cramped interior for what you might expect.

Maybe a better comparison might be this:

vs. this:

orig_1596_87ec4.jpg

29' and 3,700 lbs. vs. 36' and 10,000 lbs.

Both single seat fighters.

*Looks at his aggressor*

*Looks at the Tie Silencer*

Why is my ship a large ship?

To D. Meanie...

I never have. As a Brit I used the two seater Triumph in my original analogy. I imagined the Mustang to be similar...

I suspect I would have been better calling Kylo's equivalent a limo....

17 Maneuvers:

10 are green.

4 are white.

3 are red.

Wow!

my thing is the size of the model does not fit with the specs that have been produced for it.

for reference (from StarWars.com)

tie advanced /x1

L: 9.2 m

Arc 170

L: 12.71m

W: 19.85m

H: 3.81M

Tie/vn Silencer

L: 17.43

Of note is the only real comparison we can make is the length of the silencer vs the wingspan of the Arc 170. I get that it is supposed to be longer than the other ships but the arc 170 model is not wider than the silencer is long from what i can tell.

Maybe there's a non-trivial number of non-combat systems. If there is a small meditation chamber/pilot quarters, extra fuel tanks, long range communications systems, etc., it really wouldn't show up on a ship stat, but would make the ship substantially larger.

Yes,

...but the Thunderbolt hit like a truck with machine guns, cannons and rockets and was a b***h to take down, so much so they saw combat use well into the age of jets.

Let's hope the Silencer fairs as well..........

Nah, Americans love big gas-guzzlers. (Not including me. . .my last car was a Mini Cooper, and I now have a SMART car).

OTOH, the limo is just another big car with a ton of wasted space. ;)

Lastly, you can use the "I have the bigger vehicle" theory of survival. . .something like the Jug could take a crap ton of hits and stay flying just from a structural intergrity standpoint.

In the long run, I think this thing is gonna look super cool on the table. As an Imp player, I'm chomping at the bit for Dec 7.

Well, my point was more about vehicle size not being related to crew capacity.

And I think the Silencer will see plenty o' play in the new meta.
