Deploying medium sized figures...

By udat, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

Hi,

If you are deploying a medium sized figure (e.g. E-Web) to a deployment point that already has a figure standing on it, do you have to deploy such that both squares of the E-Web are one square from the deployment point, or is it ok if only one square is?

e.g. If X is the deployment point, and it is occupied, could the E-Web deploy to A, or would you have to deploy to B (or equivalent)?

[A][A][X][B]
[ ][ ][ ][B]

So long as the figure has one of its base spaces in the deployment point (or adjacent space if the point is occupied) then the remaining other base spaces can be in any legal space.

they do not have to be adjacent to the deployment point also.

Deployment doesn't need to be adjacent if all the squares are full. You pick a deployment point, then find the closest legal space to the deployment point, then position the figure in any orientation that fits. If the closest point doesn't have enough space (it is only one square), you'd deploy to the nearest location that does have two free spaces.

Note that deploying massive figures, they have to be outside. But you can still pick an inside deployment point. You would then deploy to the nearest outdoor space to the deployment point selected

Ha, that's interesting, and I'd never have thought of that I don't think. Have you played a mission where that was useful?

One of the large figure's spaces must enter the closest possible space. The rest of the figure can be in any orientation of your choice.

Both A and B are valid if X is occupied and the 1x2 figure doesn't have Massive. (Currently no 1x2 is Massive.)

Is that because Massive would HAVE to deploy to X, and push the other figures out the way?

Yes. A figure with Massive can end movement in the same space as other non-Massive figures, so one of its spaces must always enter the deployment point if possible. It's not possible if it doesn't fit due to walls or doors, the deployment point is an interior space, or there already is a Massive figure on the deployment point. (Used the latter trick in one of the RtH missions - didn't do me much good though.)
