[Online][Roll20][LFM] The Penumbral Pact, a modern fantasy/horror campaign

By verdantsf, in Genesys

Due to work, family, and other RL commitments, are you unable to commit to a traditional weekly RPG campaign? Do you wish you could drop in and out of a campaign when your schedule allows. Are you also a fan of The Secret World, Call of Cthulhu, World of Darkness, or the Dresden Files? If so, come check out The Penumbral Pact , a modern fantasy/horror campaign powered by the Genesys RPG system!

Rural folklore and urban legends are real. Vampires, werewolves, fey, and more inhabit the world, but their existence is a closely guarded secret. Media portrayals of the supernatural are used as a way of keeping the reality of the situation firmly in the category of make believe for the majority of the population.

Centuries ago, a treaty was signed between the select humans aware of the supernatural and the creatures they once attempted to hunt to extinction. Known as the Penumbral Pact, any being, supernatural or otherwise, who attempts to reveal the true nature of the world to the broader public is hunted down mercilessly by all signatories.

Who will you be when the shadows lengthen and horrors emerge? A merciless hunter, repentant vampire, ravenous werewolf, or duplicitous fey? Join us and explore the conflicts, intrigue, and lore of a supernatural cold war set in the present day!

Session 0: Sunday, Dec. 3, 9-10:30am US Pacific

Had a ton of fun with this homebrew setting, but I've switched over to a Fallout campaign , to scratch that post-apocalyptic atompunk itch.

Great! Here's the link to our Discord and an intro to the campaign. Also, I screwed up the link above and posted the one for last week's planning session. It's been updated :)!

Just finished our first session! Here's the recording:

Have a spot open for Session 2!

Sunday, December 17, 9am US Pacific

After Maine, the agents head east to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia to investigate the disappearance of several fishing boats following a freak storm...

Please count me in for session 2. I want to play as a repentant vampire.

How can I get with you to create a character? I am working 9 am to 6:30 pm eastern time this week.

Heya! PM me your gmail address and I'll add you to the Google Drive for the campaign :).

I am subscribed to the YouTube channel now so I can keep up. If you don't mind a suggestion, you may want to split your sessions into hour long chunks for YouTube video watching instead of the entire thing as one long video of nearly 5 hours. This is what most of the YouTube channels do... it has a double effect of allowing you to put more videos on your channel and also makes your videos seem shorter to watch so people are more likely to sit through the entire thing. Just a thought.

Regardless... this is such a cool idea you have here.

Thanks! The videos are more of an afterthought and after a week of prep and then running the game, I usually crash after the session. A single vid is just easier to upload and go, but I can definitely see chunks being better for viewing. After lighter sessions, I might give it a go sometimes :).

I am nearly done with the Siren's Call on youtube. Great stuff as before!

EDIT: You can, once per encounter, perform a medicine check. Success cures wounds, advantage cures strain. Pg. 61, black box, second paragraph :)

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the vids! As for the ruling on strain and using Medicine specifically to wipe strain when there are no wounds, I was taking guidance from page 62 regarding the Medicine skill:

"Your character should not use this skill if your character tries to heal their own strain at the end of an encounter. Recovering from strain at the end of an encounter requires Discipline or Cool."

That still leaves things open regarding healing strain during the encounter. But in terms of healing strain directly with no wounds to attend to at all, the group came to a consensus back in our Star Wars campaign to not allow it. I'm erring on the side of caution in the new campaign, especially since strain is a balancing mechanic for magic use.

Took the day after Christmas off and ran the third session. Loving the Genesys system!

Did this adventure happen?

Unfortunately, it did not. I had a lot of fun trying out Genesys with this homebrew, though! I've switched over to a Fallout campaign , as I've also really wanted to try out GM Phil's material for the setting.

Sorry to hear that the other adventures looked great and loved the theme... Good look on your fallout campaign.
