Clarifications after a crazy game.

By Rumblebuffin, in Talisman

I recently played talisman with 4 guys that had never played before and some things came up that I would like to ask about.

1. Does "battle" mean physical combat inherently or does that mean any sort of battle.

2. Does psionic blast work for psychic combat or just strength (the wording tends to strength but can be agrued for use anytime)?

3. What constitutes the "Start of turn" is it before you move or just your first action? (We ran into lots of instant/start of turn spell spamming using the before you roll to move method)

4.Can the ghoul add to his craft using spirits or just strength with monsters?

5.Can you fight charaters you encount in the upper region (past the portal of power) or do you have to encounter the space?

This game lasted 6 hours (partialy cause the guys were new but also,) because 3 people could constantly use spells, wizard prophetess plus someone had the wand always. Every person made at least 2 attempts to get to the crown only to be stop buy aquisition or some other diabolic play. At one point 3 people were at the top including me and I was turned into a toad by random thereby ending my game. Eventually the Sorceress won through painful yet epic attrition.

Cheers, and thanks in advance!

#1: Battle is Str-combat.

"Attacks are split into two types: battles and psychic combats.
A battle occurs when a character is attacked by a creature
whose Strength is given, and a psychic combat occurs when
a character is attacked by a creature whose Craft is given." (p. 10)

#2: It say battle, it means battle. Keywords are there for a reason.

#3: Before you roll for movement I would say. We also play that the active player gets the first spell in if there would be a spell-rush.

#4: "When you kill an Enemy in battle...", battle is battle only. Can't defeat Spirits in battle, so can't keep them.

#5: "In the Inner Region, a character may only encounter another
character on the Plain of Peril, the Valley of Fire, and the
Crown of Command." (p. 19)

The way we play you can cast any magic that say before the start of your turn means befor you move, if it says as requered means on the eve of battel i.e. not after dice roles and it not required becase "it not a good spell and I need to get a better one".

Battle is when you role dice to attace.

on the psionic blast it says

"cast on yourself when you are about to engage in battle. Add your craft value to your strenght unitl the end of combat"

Eg caft 5 + streangth 3 = Streangth 7

but you cant incres your craft this way (I thing there should be a spell that lets you.

In a game i played a few week a go a player on the crown got randomed in to a toad, and had to all there stuff the quetion came about as to wheter they could pick up there stuff as they hadn't move on the square.

Another quuetion is if two player are on the crown can the frist to get there use the comand spell unepeed.

Eg caft 5 + streangth 3 = Streangth 7

5+3 = 7 gui%C3%B1o.gif ? Also, Psionic Blast says Craft value (aka starting Craft), so you only get to add the printed amount. Warlock or Wizard would get +5, but even a Wizard with Craft 20 only adds 5.

Are you certain about that? The only adding starting craft values?

Check the post above my previous reply, Psionic Blast's text is quoted there. PB, Warhorse and Monk all only add Craft Value, not total Craft to Strength in battle. Craft value is the printed value on the character card, rules state this clearly.

Dam is right
