I wonder how ThreatTracker and R5K6 interact?

R5K6 says „you cannot spend this TL during this attack“, clearly thinking that an attack is the only way to spend a TL...

@GreenDragoon that's an interesting (but probably mediocre) combo. Assuming r5-k6 passes his roll, there's nothing to stop you using one TL for threat tracker and one for your attack. Threat tracker is used when your enemy attacks, and you spend TLs normally during your own attack. These are not the same attack. (For another example, if r5k6 and gunner/bodhi are both on a ship then you can spend a lock on the first attack, grab one with r5k6, then spend one on the second attack). You couldn't use r5-k6 to use threat tracker twice on one enemy (for boost+barrel roll) but the "once per opportunity" rule prevents that anyway.

At the time R5-K6 was written, there wasn't a way for a ship equipped with it to spend TLs other than during attacks.

R5-K6 works with Threat Tracker.

R5-K6 is still terrible, given that the vast majority of the time it's an inferior Fire Control System for the same points..

For those who want to see threat tracker in action, see this video. Ignore the fact that Mark jousts with his aces.

At some point Mark managed a really nifty dodge with threat tracker, but I can't find it. I think he dodged out of Boba's arc at close range (possibly off a bump) and got a shot of his own.

Threat tracker adds good versatility to a TL and makes it a great bail-out option, especially with barrel rolls which should let you still have a shot in most cases (or more than boost, anyway). It makes it extra tricky to pin aces and also lets low-ps pilots pull cute moves like setting up a bump, taking a TL, then rolling to get a shot/be safe.

Of course it‘s terrible if you have access to FCS.

But maybe it became fun on T70s?

It's not just terrible if you have access to FCS, it's poor value for points at any time.

very much this

because its value is often zero

better off even just taking a bid, most of the time

Or to put it another way, it's 3/8 of a Fire Control system for 8/8 of the points.

But, FCS can't get you a TL after threat tracker :D or be mounted on a ship without a system slot. That doesn't excuse its terribleness, I do wish it functioned all the time, or was 3/8ths of the cost rounded down.

Agreed. I still think R5-K6 is pretty awful, but if it's to have any value it will be in conjunction with other rules that interact with target locks, on a chassis that cannot equip fire control system.

If you've already barrel rolled, can you activate threat tracker to do another barrel roll?

No.
