Experimental imp list

By Eusmilus, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello,

I will have a match against a friend and planing to try the following list. Do you think it could work?

Sienar Specialist; synced turrets; LWF

The Inquisitor; TIE/v1; PTL, AT

Tomax Bren; crack shot; unguided rockets

Alpha Squadron Pilot

  • Tomax and the Inquisitor should do you proud.
    • If you can find the points for Lightweight Frame for Tomax, it'd be even better, but that's the only glaring 'gap' I can see.
  • The Sienar Specialist and the Alpha Squadron....maybe, maybe not.
    • Synced Turret isn't bad, per se, but it's a low pilot skill pilot who needs to get a target lock to make his attack.
      • This means that you may have trouble getting a lock in the first engagement against a higher PS pilot, leaving you stuck with his wimpy 2-dice primary
      • If you do succeed in getting your lock, you're stuck with a target lock rather than a focus token, meaning unmodified green dice if your opponent decides to pick on him (and since his turret encourages him to try and fight head-on, there's a fair chance someone will have a shot on him).
      • It's not as bad as it might be - after all, he can hit the gas because (unlike missiles) the turret has no minimum range, but it doesn't get a 4th die at range 1 either, so you don't want to end up in a toe-to-toe slugging match if you can avoid it.
    • The Alpha Squadron Pilot is nice enough but you'll be amazed how much autothrusters helps his defences.
  • I'd be tempted to try and find the points for a slightly better turret for the Specialist and Lightweight Frame for Tomax.
    • Try dropping the Alpha Squadron Pilot to "Backstabber". Provided you can keep him outside people's arc of fire, he's functionally identical to the Alpha Squadron Pilot but PS6
    • Those 2 points saved buy Tomax Bren Lightweight Frame. With a TIE bomber's dial, and rockets that means he needs to keep focusing, he's pretty much committed to a head-on joust. A third green die can make a big difference in his survivability.
    • I make your squad 99 points. Unless you desperately want an initiative bid for your PS8s, you could spend that point to turn the specialist's synced turret into an ion cannon turret. Yes, it's limited to 1 damage, but the ion effect is a great answer to tough, low agility, small based ships (Miranda Doni, Nym, Norra Wexley) by ionizing them and allowing the Inquisitor to exploit their blind spots with his exceptional manouvrability.

Thank you for the suggestions. I thought also to change the Alpha to Backstabber, droping the LWF for the Sienar but giving him TLT

What if you drop the Alpha down to some cheap TIE, give the Sienar TLT and Tomax LWF?

Oh, I forgot with the changes above Tomax would have LWF:

Sienar Specialist;TLT

The Inquisitor; TIE/v1; PTL, AT

Tomax Bren; crack shot; unguided rockets; LWF

Backstabber
