Got to try two different special interests today: @Ginkapo's Sato Destroyers vs my VVZZZ Sloane bombers I built for @Mikael Hasselstein.

It's funny how @Blail Blerg keeps mentioning this list he built for me, which I cannot even build, because I don't have any Skilled First Officers (a.k.a. 'Yelling hat man hate command dial'). It would require me subsidizing the Rebel cause by buying Liberty cruisers. (Nor do they seem to be available on eBay.)

Good god Mikael I just laughed out loud because all i can think of is that Simpsons Meme and the following "Hat Man yells at Dial".

100% agree. The only reason, almost ever, not to use him on anything over 1 Command is a higher priority in the officer slot. Which is not uncommon.

See? I really don't understand how people have not been using him.

Probably a big part is the lack of availability. You have to buy

THE WORST SHIP IN THE GAME
to get him, and you only get one. And every time I've ever looked for one on eBay, they're just outright unavailable.

This is the same reason why Flight Controllers doesn't get run more often I think...

I bought two Liberties. I regret them. But they are beautiful.

I'm still looking for a dual Liberty list. ****, even a fun single Liberty list. But I haven't found anything that actually fun. Most builds are just glorified front arc beat sticks.

This is again a problem of, efficiency and minmaxing being boring as ****.

If you're looking for a way to mix that up a bit, we just finished a league up here that was pretty fun in that respect. And which also, incidentally, gave me a chance to put my own pair of Liberties on the table for the first time.

It was a four-week league. At the start, everybody turned in 4 different lists. The bare minimum requirement was they had to be 4 different commanders. The mandate was "make them actually different," with the TO @Armada Jim reserving the right to say your lists weren't different enough (he didn't have to exercise that at all AFAIK). Depending on your local group, you might have to put more rigorous constraints in place to force more variety (limiting unique reuse, limiting the number of fleets you could have a given ship type in, etc), but we didn't really have an issue with that.

At each game, the two opponents handed each other all their fleets, and each chose one of the other's lists to play against. Once one of your fleets was picked, you couldn't use it again. So you used your own fleets, but you didn't know which one you'd be using until after you'd picked your opponent's fleet. As the league wound down, you would have fewer and fewer fleets to pick from, until the final match you knew what you were playing, if not what the other guy was bringing.

It was a really good way to mix it up and try out some new stuff you wouldn't normally play, especially since all the more experienced players agreed not to take it too seriously and mostly take fun lists rather than min/maxing everything. I brought a JJ IIIn fleet, a Dual-Liberty A-wing fleet, a CR90 swarm, and a less-tuned Mothma MC30 fleet with filthy Scouts.

Why would I spend 1 pt on a crutch for bad decision making?

Don't you advocate for Slicer Tools?

Getting Sliced is a bad decision.

@Snipafist, I'd try some form of this out if we could do it locally...

Yes, but no one listens. I also advocate ramming flotillas to death, a much more productive solution to the problem. As Ard says, "why did you let yourself get sliced?"

How is the lib the worst ship in the game, or even remotely close to it?

Or to be more serious, because it seems like Rebel players use them like ISDs and then find ISDs are better ISDs (and for a higher cost, who would've guessed!) and then disregard them entirely. I've seen them used well as pocket battleships/bullies taking advantage of Engine Techs to gobble up small ships on the flanks and harass larger ships from bad arcs and they work just fine that way. They're not going to win a head-to-head fight against an ISD, though, but they're not priced to do so.

But I want them to, doesn't that count for ANYTHING?
