Max Survivability Dash

By Veranis, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, I just picked up a YT-2400 because I know the ship thematically, and was considering a bunch of squads with it. I'm going to buy another one to run a double YT-2400 list, and was deliberating over whether to use a certain build.

I have Eaden with Mangler Cannon, C-3PO, and Engine Upgrade (though admittedly Engine Upgrade is open to changing, I couldn't think of anything else to do with four points).

Then I have Dash with Outrider and HLC (duh), Lando, Lone Wolf (also open to change), and... stealth device.

Squad total: 99/100

I don't think it's as dumb as it sounds. With HLC, you want to be at range 3 as often as possible to take advantage of the whole secondary weapon thing, and to get extra evade dice. This is a maneuverable ship, so that should usually be achievable. Lone Wolf lets you reroll a blank defense die. 3PO and Lando combine nicely, and since you have Stealth Device, you'll always want to guess 1 less than the number of evades you absolutely need. For example:

You're at range 3 from an attacking Phantom. Earlier you Lando'ed as an action, getting 1 evade token. Your opponent has just rolled 3 hits, and didn't modify dice (maybe he's an idiot or something). You need 3 evades, and have one. Thusly, you need to guess 1 with 3PO to keep your stealth device. Guessing 0 is pointless because you can't get hit at all. You have a good chance of getting 1 evade on 4 dice, and this is without any focuses from Lando.

So, I'm going to try this regardless of response, but what do you guys think? Dash has good firepower already, and I think this should be fairly tricky to damage unless you're fighting swarms or a bunch of Phantoms.

So, Dash is an interesting build.

Outrider/HLC is a fine choice, though I am personally a fan of Mangler. I see the value of LW, though I am personally hesitant to use it in my own squads, I always end up flying too close together. Lando is cool, but gambly. If you are okay with the risk, I applaud you. However, Rey is a strong, reliable alternative. SD is not bad. It could certainly help; so could countermeasures.

A note: C-3PO will not help Dash unless he is on Dash. In fact, I do not think 3PO is really worth it on non-agility 1 ships.

Eaden does not really need mangler, but he does need the opponent to be stressed, which your squad does not do. If you drop Mangler, you could upgrade to the more useful Leebo. I would advise a different crew. RecSpec, maybe?

I admire your desire to fly 2 YT-2400s, but without the title, they become a lot less useful.

Lone Wolf isn't terrible on Dash, but VI might be handy instead. His biggest problem is going to be people who out-PS him and try to get in his donut. PS 9 is no guarantee nowadays but it's definitely better than PS 7.

Stealth device isn't a terrible choice, but given the prevalence of Harpoon Missiles I might suggest sticking with Countermeasures instead - not getting a ton of damage on you in the opening engagement is going to be huge so you can do your thing on later turns. If you stick with Lando, I'd strongly recommend you spend the 2 points to add Smuggling Comparments and Glitterstim as a failsafe for a turn if you whiff.

As far as the companion YT goes, you're not going to get a ton of damage potential without Outrider. Vrill is fine if you've got a way to stress your opponent; Sabine Wren, Thermal Detonators, Scavenger Crane, and Countermeasures on him could be fun and comes out to 42 points. However, I'd personally reccomend going with a blocker build. The YT is surprisingly good at it since it has the native barrel roll, and like I said higher PS is going to be Dash's biggest problem, particularly if you stick with Lone Wolf. A generic with Mangler Cannon (for the approach), Cassian Andor, Smuggling Compartments, Feedback Array, and Anti-Pursuit Lasers comes out to 40 points and should be plenty annoying. If you want more survivability at the expense of firepower you could lose the Mangler and go up to Leebo with Determination.

Yeah, I didn't realize C3PO only affects ships he's on, making this not actually as good as I'd hoped. I think I'll keep Dash (although I'll add the smuggling compartment, I forgot Glitterstim existed) and reSpec Eaden for the suggested Blocker build. I'll keep stealth device for now in lieu of countermeasures unless I see SD isn't effective, because I HATE one use cards, but if SD fails repeatedly I'll stick it on. I've played RS Oicunn in the past a lot, and ramming things is fun. Only issue is, Imma need to buy a lot more stuff.... ah well. Thanks for the feedback!

EDIT: I just realized how the profile picture thing on this website works, that's cool....
