Organizing a Kit

By XTrueFinale, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So guys I want to organize a kit event for my game club, but the problem is I want to play too so I can win kit prizes.

The organizer technically is not allowed to participate to win prizes from a kit right? Does that mean I should find someone else to host a kit event for me?

The tournament rules state that you can run an event and participate as long you designate a secondary judge for any rules conflicts you’re apart of. I’ve done this multiple times with no real issues.

I do this all the time. You need a second judge, but really, anyone coming to my local tourneys can tell I'm not going to cheat and bend rules to win. I'm pretty sure 99.9% of the people who would show up to yours would be the same.

Definitely don't deny yourself the joy of playing to organize these.

While there is a thread up about this, I also want to start a kit at a store. Any tips on how to best approach a store that probably doesn't know about FFG OP? Is there anything I can read up on to run this?

Do you already have a kit?

If not, first step should be to ask your Store to order an OP kit. Maybe survey your friends before to be sure that enough players are interested.

In the meantime before the Store gets the kit, if it's not already done, you should start a Facebook group (or other media service) for the game, it will help to schedule event.

Once the Store gets the kit, look with your community when would be the best time to organize it. Maybe organise one without a kit to get the feeling of running an event.

Agreed. I also bring jank to ensure that I don't win the tournament. And I only play if the numbers are uneven. My feeling is also that as long as it's not a premier event, it's ok for the T.O. to play as long as you have a judge playing as well who you can confer with on rules.

Do the IA kits not include an extra prize for the organizer? I know X-Wing, Armada and the LCG all include an extra prize for the organizer.

They include one of each cards for the organizer (that he can keep or distribute as price) but not a set of tokens.

Thanks peeps. New Question, so according to FFG tournament regulations we have to use official FFG mat materials for the event. Does this still hold true for relaxed tourney event using kits?

Since we're organizing this event through a club, getting the maps that will be rarely used (for us) is a no go so wondering if printed mats can be used? Or will we get in trouble and get pulled up by FFG?

Is there an FFG representative there? No?

"What printed maps?"

We've even used ours at regionals on occasion.

I've not been to a regionals yet that didn't just use the fan printed maps. I've gone to the trouble to bring official tiles just in case for me and my couple people I bring but yeah no one should care at that level or below. We all want to play :)
