New York Regionals Moved & Down-Sized

Yes, SJPA is huge. Thats the problem. You’re talking about a Regional in New York. You move it to even Essex County, New Jersey and your talking about a minimum hour commute from the largest city in the world.

But SJPA certainly deserves its own Regional in that area as well. IMO NYC, Boston and Philly should have one as close to the city each year. There’s just that large of a population in each city.

Lots (by lots I actually mean only one ?) of Cities are larger than NYC.

It's better than cancelling the regional but on the same token its pretty unacceptable they promised one thing, and confirmed it weeks and weeks and weeks ago, weeks before FFG put the announcement out about Regionals, and now the venue is no good, and there doesn't seem to be any plan to deliver a venue thats matches advertised, instead providing one thats half the size.

This is not fair to local TOs in the area who can reliably hold more than 64 players, have held regionals in the past that held more than 64 players that every player walked away from smiling knowing they had fun and didn't leave feeling they wasted time and money. This is the only regional within the area that isn't 6+ hours away not including traffic.

And most importantly, it nothing that was within the responsibility of the TO. As customer you are not the guy who checks if something is double booked or not. This is not the fault of the TO. This is 100% the fault of the NYU venue. Which might have been used by other TOs as well, resulting in the exact same issue.

Furthermore you link is broken. :P

This wasn't to flame FFG, who are pretty blameless in this other than maybe not vetting the TO enough to verify the event will happen as applied for and advertised. This is more of an advisement to the players of the event and to the community as a whole about what has happened. If you can't bring what you promised in your application, and pull all of this after the date has been announced for almost two weeks, then you shouldn't be applying AND you should verify. cross Ts and dot Is, and guarantee that venue and time are locked for the regional before any formal announcement be made.

If you can blame the TO, we can blame FFG with the perfect same claim. It totally FFGs fault, they should have checked the books of the NY Venue. Heck, they should have vetted them and perma banned the NY Venue from disney events, after contacting disney over the results ... because we can just assume that this is not a first time offence of the NY Venue. ;-)

I hope you get it how you are applying here double standards.

Wouldnt you rather travel an hour plus (or in our case from LI more due to NYC traffic) and still have this near by as opposed to having to cram people in the basement of Nu Brand and cap at 64?

I would.

Frankly I'd rather play in cramped Nu Brand than the alternatives, which would be a small, hot, stinky store on Long Island...

Aside from the fact that there are non-store alternatives as a venue, characterizing every Long Island store as small hot and stinky is really flying your "please abuse me" flag. Make sure to introduce yourself when you're on the Island as @Scottishgigolo .

You're right. It is FFGs fault too. They should have vetted this stronger since going into this it was going to be an offsite regional and not held in store. At least holding it in a store you KNOW you aren't going to lose the venue due double booking.

Do you think Nu Brand would have got the regional if they initially held it in store when there are clearly bigger and less difficult to reach options? And if they did wouldn't you think it better to initially hold it in store, and then due to popular demand look for a venue to hold more so you aren't promising anything you can't deliver?

This. Its ironic hes calling LI stores small when they have way more space than any NYC store, and any place can be hot and stinky if you cram it full of people in the middle of summer.

These traits aren't unique to Long Island, but it's no secret NYC breeds snob attitudes.

Hey, I resent that

His snobbery is way too low key to hold up to NYC standards

I am sure that this would helped a lot. Maybe next year.
Oh, and before I forgot, next year all regionals gonna charge $100 entry free, because proper vetting ain't free and with dozen and dozens of rejected regional candidates cost add up quickly. ^_^

Vetted stronger how exactly? You can have a contract set up with a venue and everything be all square and still get bumped, because the venue 2x-booked someone else who also happens to have a contract with the venue. This situation is 100% on the venue.

In terms of the hudson valley, Poughkeepsie has options catskill has options, Albany has options. Poughkeepsie is very easy to get to from NYC by train or bus

Possible solution was in the second part of the post.

It seems to me like this is all on the venue, and that OP must work for a store that didn't get a regional to keep grinding this ax.

I am not an employee of any store. I just represent a community of players in the area who are very upset about the sudden venue change for a number of reasons previously stated.
