Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Poes

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

I like it, it looks good. Chewbacca is a solid pick for crew. Why RecSpec on the Liberator though? If you’re focusing, you’re not reinforcing :P. Unless you Coordinate, I guess.

I've always considered Intensity a means by which Poe could (almost) always have a focus token. Advanced Optics soon does that better, so I think Intensity is out. Assuming you're taking Advanced Optics (maybe you aren't?), I'd go VI.

Intensity gives Poe the ability to shed 2 TL's a turn. Optics means he can keep a Focus and then Intensity to an evade. At PS 9 and with an initiative bid he should not be getting shot at by more than 2 ships, and really only one. His TL stripping ability nullifies OS-1 Gunboats, Optics/Intensity should reliably dodge 2 damage, 3 damage if you need to spend an evade. This isnt taking into consideration range or obstacle bonuses.

My Poe build is

Poe - PS 9 - 33 (42)
Intensity - 2
BB-8 - 2
"Black One" - 1
Advanced Optic -2
Auto Thrusters -2

I think he will be pretty tanky and I look forward to flying him with a VI Jansen with Flight Astro for funsies, or tinkering around with something else for a bit more competitive play.

My thought is to NOT reinforce unless I'm getting shot more than once. Pred + focus is good offense, and 1 evade token is good for the defense.

This was my other thought, it has more defense but less offense:

T-70 X-Wing: •Poe Dameron (41)
Autothrusters (2)
•Black One (1)
Veteran Instincts (1)
•R2-D2 (4)
Advanced Optics (2)

Sheathipede-class Shuttle: •Fenn Rau (26)
Wired (1)
•Chewbacca (4)
R2 Astromech (1)

Auzituck Gunship: Wookie Liberator (33)
Expertise (4)
•C-3PO (3)

Total: 100/100

Maybe it just comes down to differing playstyles, but I disagree.

BB-8 gives Poe the ability to shed 2 TLs a turn, not Intensity. I think combining Intensity and Advanced Optics is just as much a mistake as Intensity and R5-P9...they fight against each other for those tokens. If you spend your evade token on defense then you're forced to spend your focus token to refresh Intensity and the benefit of Advanced Optics is lost.

I don't want my BB-8 Poe to be tanky, I want him to never or rarely be shot, which is why I'd want him PS10+. I don't think PS9 is reliable enough nowadays and I really don't want to leave points on the table by having to take a bid at PS9.
