Ion Cannon Battery

Does the energy symbol on the card show that equipping the card increases the max energy by 2 or is that just saying you need to spend 2 to use the attack?

It is important not to mix the energy of the ship vs the energy of the card.

Energy of the ship

- Every huge ship has a maximum amount of energy that it can have on the ship itself. This is displayed on the ship car itself (usually the aft section if it is a ship with 2 sections).

- Some titles allow you to increase that energy limit. So far, nothing else can.

- If at any time you gain more energy than your energy limit, the excess energy is loss.

- That energy can then be allocated to different cards during the "allocate energy step" (this includes secondary weapons).

- You can find it all on page 2 of huge ship rules

Energy on other cards

- Secondary weapons can hold energy transfered to them up to their maximum value.

- To fire a secondary weapon, you need to be able to pay the energy cost.

- During a round, you can fire your primary weapon and every secondary weapon (provided you have the energy)

- In tournament rules, your huge ship starts with full energy on itself and each secondary weapon (page 3 of epic tournament rules).

I hope that clarifies a few things.

I think so. So the ship has a total pool of energy then I allocate energy to the secondary weapons. I do not have to spend that energy on the cards until I fire the weapon. Titles increase the total energy but not weapons AND the energy is allocated by section of the ship.

So when I do a maneuver do both fore and aft gain energy or do I only gain the total from the maneuver and can pick fore or aft from there?

In the case of the Corvette and Raider, those ships only have energy in their aft section, so only the aft section gains energy. The C-Roc, Rebel transport and Gozanti only have one ship card, so it's not as confusing for them.

Here is a full example:

Round 1

- A Raider equipped with 3 single turbo lasers is fielded. It comes with 6 energy on the ship and 2 energy on each secondary weapon.

- On its turn, the ship moves forward 1 and gains 3 energy, but since it is already at its maximum, the energy is lost.

- It has no energy to allocate, so nothing do do there.

- It has no upgrade card with the "use energy" label, so he does not use it.

- It then performs 2 actions: a target lock with its aft section and a reinforce with the fore section.

- During the combat phase, it fires all secondary weapons (2 energy of each weapon) and decides to use the ability of its fore section to fire its primary weapon twice (consuming 2 energy, leaving 4 on the ship card).

Round 2

- The Raider moves forward 1 again, and gains 3 energy. This brings its total pool of energy from 4 to 6, but 1 energy is still lost because of the limit of 6.

- It allocates all 6 energy to its single turbo lasers, 2 per secondary weapon, leaving its reservers at 0.

- It has no upgrade cadrs with the "use energy" label, so he does not use it.

- It then performs 2 actions: a target lock with its aft section and a reinforce with the fore section.

- During the combat phase, it fires all secondary weapons (2 energy of each weapon), but since the ship's energy reserves at at 0, it cannot use the ability of its fore section to fire its primary weapon again.

Now as you can see, energy management is key. In the above example, the Raider was consuming energy far too quickly. An upgrade like optimised generators will allow it to fire for a longer period of time without relying on other upgrades like Tibana gas to recover.

The challenge is different of you have a huge ship that uses ordnance, but that's another story.

Also note that it's possible that even firing might not consume all the energy on a hardpoint weapon.

Quad Laser Batteries have a limit of two energy, but if they don't need their 'double tap' ability, then they have a second burst still in the batteries.

And yes, energy is stored on whichever section has an [energy limit] symbol rather than a [primary weapon value] symbol
