Copy of the GenCon Fantasy Demo?

By Palomarus, in Genesys

Maybe the demo hints at some things still to come in a Terrinoth campaign setting?

The core book has fairly extensive hacking rules, which is unexpected but makes sense as there is already a system-free setting book for Android. The core book needs to do more of the heavy lifting.

When they release a fantasy book I’m sure it will contain more crunch in addition to fluff. Signiature spells and heroic abilities could easily be an example of that.

Just off of the few shots I saw of the Character Sheets... looks like the removed a few of the Magic Skills (Rune, Primal, and Verse) that were listed... and replaced them with Cunning....

So I am sure more things have changed as well between the demo and now.

Rune was never in Genesys. It is literally the thing that makes Runebound Runebound. It's fluff. Crunchy fluff. Or fluffy crunch. Crunch that adds character to a setting by also being fluff. Fluffcrunch. Runebound is the example fantasy setting, so it might be in there.

Primal actually is in the CRB.

I don't know about Verse.

Interesting. Finesse seemed pretty cool and important.

Finesse will definitely have a place in our house. BUT...it might be a weapon property, not a talent. You either handle a knife wildly like you're chopping wood with it (brawn), or you know how to knife fight (agility). Some weapons are really on the fence between the two though, including one-handed swords.

Very true, but the inclusion of such rules in a demo to move the CRB product itself would feel like a bait and switch. I'm sure that's the reason they don't want the demo going out as is, and I see their point. Please don't misunderstand my comparative remarks as criticisms. I think the core is quite solid, but it's also absolutely intended to be a generic base and they acknowledge a given house is going to need to make modifications for a particular game.

I had a chance to look at Genesys last night. The demo character sheets are pretty significantly out of date with the final CRB. The concept of a "heroic ability" is missing entirely in the CRB, and it looks like there's no such thing as a "signature spell" with component pieces baked into the spell. It looks like some talents are not in the CRB either, such as Finesse. Again, it was a quick reading, so I might have missed them. Frankly it looks like the demo might have been more advanced than the final version in terms of gameplay concepts.

For their Fantasy expansion possibly? Sounds reasonable, general rules in the general book. More focused and elaborate rules for the setting. Rune magic for Runebound setting? They probably just don’t want to ruin their next release.

Sorry this was was stated up thread and I missed it ignore.

Not sure what you mean by "in Genesys"... it was listed on the PC sheets for the GenCon Demo Game... which was what I was referencing here. And seeing as that was a Demo for Genesys... ;)

If you meant you were part of the play test group and it wasn't ever listed as in the CRB betas... then I guess there is that.

As for the Primal Magic Skill... I was told by someone that has the book that there are only 3 Magic Skills Listed in the CRB (Arcana, Divine, and Cunning), as I do not have the book myself yet, I assumed that was correct.

I don't have the book, either, but the source I'm using (this-a-one) mentions "Primal". One of these sources seems to use a name already used for an attribute. The other is unique. Logically...

Your facts and logic have no place here on the Internet good Sir! ;)

... I should have known better, I do actually play the SW RPG. So there is no excuse.

The redditor in the thread corrected themselves (thanks me!): the three magic skills (4chan has the page) in the CRB are Arcana, Divine, and Primal.

And as shown here, @CMink, the Genesys GenCon demo had Rune and Verse as well.

Gotta say, I'm rather disappointed that Verse isn't included. If bards aren't generic fantasy, then what is?

If you want Verse you can add Verse. Someone earlier talked about there not being a Finesse talent, well if you want to add Finesse you can add Finesse. That's the beauty of Genesys. If the example they give you doesn't have what you want, then you can just add it in yourself. Your world, your rules.

Well, obviously. Makes its exclusion all the more weird, though. And as for Finesse, I'd houserule Light Melee as Agility and Heavy Ranged as Brawn, anyway. :P

Quickly skimmed through it; looking good. :D And includes references to the rule book, so I very much assume it's up to date. I guess they decided the pregenerated characters would require too much effort to adapt, though. :( Well, maybe when they're releasing the Runebound splatbook.
