So after the 6 in six weeks?

By Fu Leng, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

I was just wondering if anyone knows what is coming next, after the 6 in 6 weeks dynasty packs?

thanks

I haven't heard of anything definitive, but I would assume normal pack/month release schedule. Hopefully the first deluxe box hits soon though because I'm starting to feel spoiled by the quick release rate. It's going to be hard to wait a "whole month" for 2 new Unicorn cards.

I'm also thinking that there will be a deluxe/expansion box for the New Year, followed by the new cycle of packs from Feb-July

All rumors require several grains of salt (sold separately). The only existing rumor I'm aware of is that a deluxe box will release in February, with a regular monthly cycle of cards after that, followed by another deluxe box. That said, this same rumor suggests the first deluxe box will focus on Phoenix cards, with cards for other clans that somehow interact with Phoenix. The next cycle will introduce Mantis, with the second deluxe box being focused on Mantis as well. There was also mention of The Lost, but can't remember if they were going to start in the Mantis deluxe box or the pack cycle after it.

The rumor said Lost in second deluxe and from the third pack foward.

Trouble I feel is at this stage of the game all the clans are fairly close and any clan specific deluxe box is going to throw that balance off for a fair amount of time it it's 1 or 2 a year that' still 3 years+ to fully balance out and that if we ignore the minor clans

True, but you also have that 6 month window following each deluxe box where the dynasty packs can shore that up and help balance out for the other clans. The real question will be HOW the deluxe boxes are done in L5R compared to GoT.

I hope they learned their lessons from it.

I would prefer a deluxe based on a theme for all clans than a clan specific box

I wouldn't hold my breath. They haven't done it since Invasion and early Cthulhu; I really doubt they go back to it. The 'lesson' seems to have been learnt a long time ago.

When done well, a deluxe box doesn't need to make the faction significantly more powerful. For example, out of the four deluxe boxes for Thrones 2.0, two of them (Lanni/Night's Watch) didn't make a significant impact for their faction's existing decks, instead opening up other deck options, and one gave the faction a needed power boost (Stark). I haven't played much with the new Tyrell box, and while there seems to be some very powerful cards in there it seems to mostly give Tyrell several 'good' deck options, rather than making one playstyle dominant. The other thing with Thrones is there's a suspicion the release schedule for Deluxes may be based on the faction's power levels at the time; granted there's a 6-12 month delay on them so there is potential for inbalance there.

What's featured in a deluxe box? Also, any idea on price?

For years LCG deluxe box are priced 30$. Ther're leaks that first Deluxe for LCG is build around Phoenix.

With all of the name dropping of Yoritomo, I would be surprised if the Yoritomo or MCA didn't appear. At least, Yoritomo himself.

I hope that no Minor Clans are devoured by the Mantis in their quest for glory. If the Mantis cannot stand by themselves, they better not stand. They could create their own families but eating other Clans because "not enough manpower"... Tsk tsk tsk. Numbers are no excuse when Yoritomo himself was his best 20 men. :P

Maybe the other minor clans want to hop on the Mantis bandwagon, just like the players. How meta would that be?

I' rather have mantis as a conflict influence but I'd like it to go to and event with clans going to vote for or against them to becoming a clan and then crushing them under feet and sink their boats ;)

I wish they would make the delux boxes 2 clans, theme it in a "_____ vs _____" style set where each of the clans featured get support for a theme and a new box. The cards would be themed around the story of the box as well, showcasing that conflict.

You even have the story paired up to allow a few of these already.

Lion vs Crane "Battle of the Osari Plains"
Phoenix vs Unicorn "Of Might and Magic"
Crab vs Shadowlands "Walls of Obsidian and Jade"

I can easily visualize those.

I'd rather see Crab + Mantis: Bruthas from Anutha Mutha (instead of Vs theme).

Fiction is potentially setting up a Dragon vs. Scorpion: Heresies and Secrets (scorpion investigating Perfect Land Sect in Dragon lands).

I will be fine with Clan themed boxes. That is not my preference, but hopefully they can do it correctly. Give a new stronghold or two, new tech thematic to that clan, then sprinkle the new tech and countermeasures into neutral and other clan cards. Deluxe expansion for new factions makes sense to me even if Deluxe expansions are not faction specific. Are deluxe expansions traditionally tied to the current cycle in any way? I could see either starting off or capping off a cycle. For instance an Imperial faction to cap off the Imperial Cycle.

Devoured? That is a rather narrow interpretation.

So if you had your way, the Kitsune, Tsuruchi, and Moshi wouldn't have seen any real play in the CCG after the Second Day of Thunder. Wouldn't it just be easier to say that you don't want us to be a playable faction?

How about this time ask for the Story Team not to be as lazy in the writing that the AEG ST was where the Mantis are concerned. Beneath, Below, Beyond was a really good start in that direction.

The Mantis Hate is strong with this one.

You assume too much. I'm not against the Kitsune being a playable faction. Their own playable faction.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy mantis.

Had it not been for Yoritomo's Alliance/Mantis, Kitsune wouldn't have been playable in the old game. Each version of Kyuden Kitsune was in green.

In the old Story, the Mantis saved the Kitsune. With this new game I'd like to see the Kitsune save the Mantis.

I'd also like to see the Fox show up in the story, but Yoritomo already beat them to the punch.

But back in 2000.

If the deluxe box is slanted towards Phoenix I will be pissed! It will throw off the balance, big time. It's stupid!

I will consider leaving the game, I certainly don't want to play in any tourney where one clan is beefed up?

I hope FFG doesn't do this!

Yeah but she didn't see that much play. A better analogy would have been this which actually punished you for running Mantis personalities in your Alliance deck. But that it was from a period in the story where the story and design team seemed to have a personal hate for the Alliance and took pleasure in creating cards that punished them for playing loyal despite the faction under performing in game.
