Talent Pyramid

CORRECT. Now the question becomes "can I layer on so many descriptors that the difficulty is technically 7 dice, then use Master to get it down to Formidable (which is the maximum difficulty to cast spells)?"

Probably not, but it would be GROSS to cast an Empowered-Deadly-Fire spell at a target at Medium range. And that's even before layering on bonuses from Magic Implements...

I would TOTALLY Harry Dresden that place!

(If you don’t know who Harry Dresden is, he is a Wizard/PI who has a bad habit of burning down buildings.)

I don't have the book yet - could you not buy Master again for another skill when you buy a tier 5?

You can't; Master is listed as " Ranked : No", meaning you can only purchase it once ever.

"The building was on fire, and it wasn't my fault."

This makes me wonder if I could manage to find a way to bring Aspects from the Dresden Files RPG into Genesys...

Got it. Although I would have thought that applying it to a second skill would not count as 'ranked' as you'd have it once for each of two different skills.

It is the talent itself you can only take once.

Dedication is ranked, so you can take it many times and apply it where you want (to a limit of 5 for any characteristic).

RAW says that only talents listed as "Ranked: Yes" can be purchased more than once.

And in this case, it's a good idea. In the same section about Ranked Talents they say "This system is designed to encourage some difficult choices.", and this certainly qualifies that methodology.

This talent pyramid is brilliant! I love it! This sort of free-form character creation is exactly what a system like this needs. Time to make my time-traveling steampunk vampire-hunting wizard!

I imagine that time traveling steampunk vampires are harder to hunt than normal vampires but maybe that's why you need a wizard to do it. Just make sure that they never learn your name or they can go back and kill your parents before you were born and if that failed they'd try to kill you as a child, basically it'd be a lot like the terminator movie series.

Hmm, I took it as the vampire-hunting wizard is the time traveling steampunk character, and that he is hunting more or less normal vampires throughout time. Or possibly the SAME vampire throughout time, they are immortal, after all.

Looks like if you factor in the cost of specialisations, costs between Genesys and Star Wars are pretty even.

Maybe, maybe not...

4x(tier 5) in SW can be as low as 150 (=5+10+15+20+25+25+25+25), typically around 200, and, completion of tree 300.. In Genesys, that's 400 =(4×25+5×20+6×15+7×10+8×5=100+100+90+70+40). But, unlike SW, the next one is only 75 away.

I realize that this is theoretically unlikely, but once you have filled out your talent pyramid you cannot learn any more talents?

No, you just keep adding onto the pyramid. Your pyramid of talents can keep growing and growing.

Theoretically, the only limit is the number of talents that are available.

And even then, GMs can always add more talents.
