I like the first method as well, but for other applications (SW Legion) since it looks like cool alien foliage.
How is method 2 created?
Patience, lots and lots of patience, and burned finger tips.
Short answer - Hot glue.
Long answer - also you will need a 1" washer onto which to glue a 1" smooth foam ball that has been cut in half. A paper clip that has been straightened out and cut to a length of about 3" and inserted into the foam ball half and bent to shape. Then you wrap some floral wire up the paper clip, and then wrap it back down. This is so the wire will have some teeth for the glue. Then you spend the next hour or so putting small drops of hot glue on everything and waiting for it to dry. Never put two drops next to each other while they are both still hot, they just ooze together. Then add another 1" foam ball to the top, the whole thing this time. Start adding drops of hot glue, then if you want the spiky bits insert some floral wire. Then put the nozzle of the hot glue gun over the wire and put on glob of glue then slowly pull it off. If the whole thing gets to top heavy just add a 1 1/4" washer to the bottom of the other washer. I ran out of washers, so I used a poker chip instead, well you get the idea.
The ground explosions are just the 1/2 ball with spiky bits. The explosions on the stick have a hole drilled in the bottom and then a plastic tube inserted and that is hot glued in place.
It takes a little time to create but it has really cool possibilities and easy to paint as the hot glue really takes to paint. I am going to the surplus store next week to find some ping pong balls I saw last time I was there. I am thinking to cut the bottom off of them and seeing if I can get a tea light under it to make a lighted explosion. Also I have some Surface to Air Missile launch smoke trails made, but the missiles I ordered on shapeways (been working on the foliage ones for a while now) are the wrong size. I accidentally ordered 1/700 scale instead of 1/350. Maybe I can make some. Anyway, I think they will look really cool and can be used as a base defenses instead of just having turbo lasers, and laser turrets. I was thinking it might also be cool to cut up some micro machine x-wings and ties to add them to the explosions.
My two player campaign rough draft. Figured I would post it here first for Paint and Mod fans before I put it over on the main page. I hate writing and much prefer building terrain.
Basic Rules only, I've gotten bogged down in the missions.
Yes, theoretically you could win on the second turn. However, the faction being assaulted in final mission will get an extra 40-50 points, so it isn't likely.
