That makes sense
Anyone know of videos of the games from the NC regional? I’d love to see how those players used the 2x Kylo gunboats.

Sounds like they didn’t have time or space to get the camera set up, so no luck this time.

There was talk of streaming the cut games but ultimately I think space was the biggest issue.
Was it only a Top 4 cut? How big was the regional?

I like the sound of this

There was another gunboat list or two in the top 8 as well. Turns out slam + reload on a ship that can take lrs is pretty good
Harpoons! Harpoons everywhere! The countdown to the next nerf begins.

Seriously though. I would not be surprised if Harpoons are as present (or more) than tlt in its prime at top tables this regional season. I still have no idea what FFG was thinking with that one. It’s always really odd when they release a card that everyone who knows anything about the game realizes it’s stupid strong for its cost ( in this case even WITHOUT the condition being considered), within minutes of reading it.
I would be really curious to see if the missile gunboats would hold up without Harpoons.

Will someone explain to me the benefit of Long Range Scanners. I have yet to play this particular upgrade and I just don't understand why people use it. It makes sense to get the target lock early, especially if you want to be able to modify your dice with a focus as well, but not being able to take a target lock on a ship that's close to you just seems counterproductive. Somebody needs to educate me.

They don't need the target lock after launching their payload. After that alpha strike they get out, and spend at least two turns reloading, and getting another TL while out of range 3. Circle back and do it again until they die.

In this instance, the gunboats will slam, reload and aquire the TL away from the action, so it makes sense (or they get the TL first movement, then slam into range if needed the 2nd and still fire with the title)
It makes you wonder if FFG tested Gunboats without titles.

The above sentence isn’t wrong, but the distribution spread did put gunboats at the top and bottom tables.

60 player.
Edit: top 8 cut.

I'm not surprised by this, I'm just happy to see the numbers on the table.
It's definitely got a lot of potential, and HLC/Crack/Linked is both hard-hitting and tough, but it's going to take some getting used to with SLAM it's only solid method of repositioning. I'm looking forward to seeing what the top players make of it, and the builds that prove successful.

I would say that’s why the ordinance title costs 2 and not 0, and why the PS5 guy costs 2 more points than he probably should.
These cheap 22pt Nu’s do get full mods on a 4 dice shot but only every 3 rounds. Kind of what the Phantom was supposed to be like.
The title allows you to reduce the number of mods for the ability to keep the rate of fire up. So if you can roll in with your TL you might get 1-2 shots on the same target over 2 rounds, possibly modified by GC.
If the title was free you wouldn’t have to choose between the 2 options. They would both be available to you.

5/8 Imperial! People are really keen to get them back on the tables.

It turned out Empire was actually good, people just didn't play it

You get the final top four minute details there sir? .....quite interesting. I'm betting on LRS Gunboats and Duncan was the Palp Ace player.
BTW, on the topic of Harpoons, at least they are operated out of an 80 degree arc; and that my friends is at least 90% of why X-Wing is great, so that is at least the positive. So Miranda, Gunboats, Scurrgs, and Imp Aces are reaping the benefit of a Scum expansion, OK, but Miranda is sick because of TLT and Regen. The great thing about Harpoons is Vader is back. Aren't we all playing a Star Wars game?!? It seems if the game devolved into something where at least THE most iconic pilot in the entire fantasy realm wasn't playable at tournaments, the game would effectively be dead. It's bad enough Luke, Wedge and Han are rarely seen --which isn't at all good for the health of the game at all-- but if Vader stayed missing, let's face it, we could kiss this s*** goodbye. If Harpoons bring back Vader, piloting with actual 80 degree arcs that matter and actually finally reduce the stale point fortress-ing, regen-ing, bomb-ing, TLT-ing barrel-rolling freighters, turret carrying, etc. and some of that lovely core game mechanic can be resurrected; you know, that fun style that sold us all on this game, pew, pew; then I say, "bring it on."
If not, and the 80 degree arc and all the icons fade completely, then the game is done, over; and none of us want that.
....just my two cents.
