Would you ever want to see L5R receive trait searchers? For example, a character/event allowing you to search your deck for a Bushi/Cavalry/Shugenja and put it face-up on one of your provinces, to be deployed later at your convenience?
Trait Searchers
Appropriately costed, this should be fine. Combo doesn't seem to be very present, currently, and while I like the current heavy focus on interaction between each player, I could appreciate a little room for combos.
I don't particularly want one myself at the moment, but I wouldn't be offended if balanced tutors come up.

Fukurokujin Shrine
Holding +1 Strength
Action: Sacrifice this holding. Search the first five cards of your Dynasty deck for a card with the Shugenja trait - Put it face-up in this province. Shuffle your Dynasty deck.
Don’t tell me you wouldn’t like this.
There are only a few things I think this game is really missing right now. The ability to search your Dynasty deck for specific types of characters is one of them. So many games are won or lost based on what Dynasty cards you top-deck. Having some control over that would massively increase consistency of deck performance.

Do you think searchers would function better as Dynasty or Conflict cards? And I agree with your opinion that some deck manipulation would go a long way towards improving Dynasty consistency.

I mean, I'd play it, but I don't really miss it right now.
I'd rather they wait till they have more cards involving the other keywords (such as berserker ) and and have searches for those.
As much as I love digging stuff like that, and like the agasha swordsmith and the seeker initiate, I very much prefer actual search cards, y'know, ones that just flat out search your deck for something and add it to your hand/province. However given the cards that ffg has printed I get the feeling that they might (for some reason totally inexplicable to me) think that that is over powered. On top of this, if I'm gonna search the top 5 cards of my deck for something, I always preferred the cards that either let me put the remaining cards back in any order or that just put the remaining cards back in the same order, I mean if I'm gonna search the top five cards and then shuffle, I may as well just be drawing a card. However from the few searchers they have printed that either shuffle after or discard the remainder, I get the feeling that they think effects like that are overpowered, but I have played a lot of games that did stuff like that and I can tell you with 100% certainty, they were not overpowered, in fact they allowed certain styles of play to actually be possible, styles that are distinctly lacking in l5r right now.

I could see both as possibilities. Holdings make the most sense to me thematically as a way to do it. The holding could represent a certain school or dojo or family building, and search for characters with a related trait. (Example: Hida Dojo, sacrifice to search for a character with "Hida" in the name). Or you could have a Dynasty character who is a sensei, and their ability is that when they leave play, you get to search for a thematically appropriate character to stick in one of your provinces (bringing up the next generation of samurai). Conflict cards are harder for me to imagine, because conflict cards tend to be focused on, you know, winning conflicts.

That’s why in my example I did it as a shrine.
I mean, there are seven major Fortunes, there are seven clans... do the math
Fukurokujin is the Fortune of Wisdom and Mercy, so I thought it was the one who better fit the Phoenix.
