I looked it up on Wookiepedia and all that it said was 'after she freed herself from the trash compactor. . .' which makes me think that they casually skipped over that portion of the explanation. Maybe she had override codes for the doors?

I think it explains in the comic series they released on her

I read the comic. It was a concerted effort to validate the character after the lame representation Phasma got in TFA.

The art was good, and the writing compelled me to care about the supporting characters in the story. So it’s worth a read.
