Rise of Urthko (encounter 1) - pit’s special rules

By qq1x, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Dear Descent Fans,

I have some questions about Rise of Urthko (encounter 1) and about the pit’s special rules:

a) If a hero walks into the pit, is he still suffer 2 damage (like normally) or just replace his figure with a token?

b) When a hero walks into the pit, is his turn immediately ends or he just lose one action?

c) If hero is in the pit, can he perform other action (like attack or rest) or could he only performs the “climb out” action?

d) If hero is in the pit, could he be still effected from the overlord’s cards (for example Dark Charm) and can he be attacked from other figures?

e) If a hero is in the pit, has he only got line of sight to the adjective area and vice versa?

The pit’s special rules (from quest guide) :

Deep Trouble
Pit spaces have different rules during this encounter:

Lord Merick Farrow cannot voluntarily enter pit spaces. If he does enter a pit space, the overlord immediately places him in the closest empty space that is not a pit space and he is Stunned.

If a hero enters a pit space, immediately replace his figure with a hero token; if he is the current player, his turn immediately ends. This hero is dangling (see „Getting Out”) .

Large monsters ignore pit spaces.

Any figure that enters a pit space and is not a her, Lord Merick Farrow or a large monster is immediately defeated.

Getting Out
Dangling heroes are not on the map. A dangling hero cannot return to the map except by being pulled out or climbing out.

As an action, a hero adjacent to the hero token of a dangling hero may test Might or Awareness. If he passes, he pulls him out. Remove the hero token
from the map and place his figure in an empty space adjacent to that pit space.

As an action, a dangling hero may climb out . If he does, he places his figure in an empty space adjacent to his hero token and then removes his hero token from the map. Then, his activation immediately ends.

Thank you for your answer!

a) Just replace the hero by a token. As those pit spaces have special rules, no damage is suffered.
b) If a hero enters a pit space, immediately replace his figure with a hero token; if he is the current player, his turn immediately ends.
c) Dangling is almost identical to being knocked out, the only thing that a hero can do is climb out and stand up, respectively.
d) Most likely no. However, this might warrant a support question.

c) No, as he is not on the map.

Sounds logical, we will play like as you described!

Thanks again Sadgit for the helpful information!
