Suggestion for Dash/Miranda build

By Rouge Five, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I might be going to a tourney on Sunday and wanted some in put on this squad:

Dash (97)

•Dash Rendar (55) - YT-2400
Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Recon Specialist (3), •Outrider (5), Engine Upgrade (4)

•Miranda Doni (42) - K-Wing
Twin Laser Turret (6), Sabine Wren (2), •Bomblet Generator (3), Advanced SLAM (2)

I am debating switching LW and Recon Specialist for Expertise on Dash. Thoughts?

At the very least, get a cheap EPT on Dash. Adaptability puts him at an 8 with Miranda, giving you a bit of flexibility on activation. Trick Shot can give him a 5-dice HLC. (Or did he already have one equipped, like Lone Wolf?)

Mainly, though, I'm seeing a disconnect between Dash's upgrades. If you plan on either Boosting or Barrel Rolling each turn, your Recon Specialist will just gather dust. Sure, it's nice to have, but just how often will you focus, and how often will that focus really help? I'm thinking that your plan for Expertise might be the way to go. You expect that upgrade to convert 1 out of every 4 red dice you throw... that REALLY adds up over the course of a game, and it lets you use your re-positioning abilities to arc dodge, block, and create space when you need to.

Miranda, on the other hand, is just ugly (for your opponent). I'd keep her just how she is.

Ok, switched out Lone Wolf and Recon Specialist for Expertise and Mercernary Co-pilot

Mainstream X-wing wisdom says Mercenary Co-Pilot is a terrible card. Take Rey instead. Slow-roll into the obstacles, collecting focus tokens as you go, then you should have plenty of tokens for defense when the shooting starts.

Expertse on Dash is a really bad idea. With only 2 defense dice he needs either boost+barrel roll with PTL to dodge arcs, or some kind of defensive modifier like Lone wolf to keep from being swamped.

Lone Wolf / HLC / Outrider / Rey on Dash is the best build currently, and you can add an engine upgrade if you don't think you can keep the range otherwise. That can give you an extra point for Burnout SLAM on Dash in case you really get into trouble.

It’s a good build, but I wouldn’t say it’s the exclusively best. Heroes of the Resistance (Rey and Snuggling Compartment) was the best thing to happen to Dash because it diversified his build options. PtL versions with Kyle or Kanan are still good too.

@Rouge Five

The X-wing hive mind is tidally locked on HLC for Dash. In the shadow of the 7 point donut people win games with Mangler on Dash. Ion Cannon is fun in casual games, but the damage limit holds it back from competitive play.

Don’t assume you have to use Outrider title either. (heresy!) I’ve taken it off before and had some great experiences.

Thanks for the feedback. I don’t have heroes of the resistance, so I can’t add Rey.

If I switch to PTL for Dash, is Nien Nunb the best crew? All straights are green, so easier to clear the stress?

If you want PTL, then Kanan Jarrus is your best buddy. He let's you clear stress off white manuevers as well, opening your dial drastically.
The turns you need to get out of arcs, you can boost + BR, which is crazy good, and if you do not need maneuverablity, you have focus + TL instead for full offensive power.

If I were you, I would be very tempted to drop advance slam + sabine for a 4pt ordinace + guidance chips (or LRS).

Advanced slam just gives you focus when you run away.. (or TL if you are in a good position), but I do not think it is worth 2 points for that.
Sabine IS very good, but I honestly like the ability to alphastrike over 1 dmg extra per bomb.

Check with your TO. Most local events will allow proxies. If your TO is a stiff, then you can always find another player to borrow the cards from.

Just making sure I understand correct. Kanan works for on Dash because Dash is always in Range 1 of himself, right? So this will leave Dash with the ability to clear stress on any dial except his 4K turn, right?

And you should never K-turn with Dash unless things are really really dire.

I don't plan on it ;-)

If you are choosing between "Super-Dash" (PtL, Kanan, Engine) or the LW-Recon version, you might want to take into account which one you actually find more fun to play. I switched to the LW-Recon at one point because I found it really solid and somewhat hard to go wrong with. Then I realized that it simply wasnt fun at all, which "Super-Dash" certainly is. I also find Lone Wolf tends to mess with my own gameplay at times because of the range restriction.

I actually switched from Miranda to VI-Nym in my Dash build because I love the PS 10 to deal with all those PS 9s out there that try to get into the doughnut hole of Dash. This is my preferred Dash build at the moment:

Dash/PtL/HLC/Kanan/Title/EU 58 pts

Nym/VI/TLT/Bomblet/Sabine 42 pts

I run Lone Wolf Dash with HLC, title, Rey and countermeasures with a VI Nym with a missile, Bomblet, Sabine and TLT. It is such a fun list!

Maybe Im just tunnel-visioned in my play, but I always find it harder to cover Dash with LW because I get caught up in keeping the ships apart. I really like Nym with Sabine and Bomblet Generator in that role though. You get to have two bombs with a range-1 radius in play, each capable of hitting for 3 damage (with Sabine). PtL on Dash along with the Engine Upgrade makes it easier for me to hide behind that screen if I need to, so I kind of prefer that combo, although I could certainly use the 5 points that the LW-Recon combo frees up. But, in any case I certainly prefer Nym over Miranda, mostly because of the PS10 and the barrel roll.

Gotta admit, that setup does look super fun to fly.

I was actually debating that very same build instead of Miranda... Might have to test both out, although I might like Nym better. One more total hit point and easier to fly together to cover each other.
