Readying a character

By jp66, in Star Wars: Destiny

Hey all,

Relatively new player, wondering what exactly entails when you ready a character, after it's already been activated. For example, if you are playing Mace Windoo, activate him (with MotC), and have rolled MotC's special (spending the 2 resources to ready him), what exactly happens if you ready him? Do all of the dice go back to the card, and you get to re-roll again? If you've already resolved some/all of his dice, do those (along with any that you have not resolved) return to his card? Do just his character dice return to his card, or all of them? I'm a little confused by this.

JP

We play it as you can activate all other dice before activating the special. Once the special has been activated all the dice are rolled back out as they are a part of said character. Now could we be misunderstanding the rules pertaining to this situation? Sure. But unless it is said how exactly this is to be played then we are playing on.

With Mace your ready him, dice stay in the pool until you resolve them. When you choose you can activate him again rolling in all dice that are on him.

its a great ability, K2so, and bala tiko also have this ability

A lot of these kind of question can be answered by looking in the Rules Reference Guide -

Basically: Readying the character has no impact on the dice - any dice in the pool remain in the pool, any dice on the character will remain on the character.

However, when you then go to activate the character, you only roll any dice that are on the character. Dice in the pool remain as they were.

E.g. you roll in Mace with MoTC, rolling damage and a blank on Mace, and a special on MoTC. You resolve the damage, then next action resolve the special. Mace readies. Now when you activate him again, the blank dice will still be in the pool, so you only roll the other two dice. The blank dice will remain in the pool and is treated normally (i.e. you could still reroll it as normal after activating Mace again).

Yeah - I have the updated rules/errata. I found the text on "Ready" was not clear enough (at least not for me). I'm not really a ccg player (only really ever played a couple of them, and not MtG) and not well versed in all the nuances of timing, legalise, etc.

So, if I understand you correctly - if I roll in 4 dice with Mace (let's say I roll 2 damage, 1 special and 1 blank), then after I resolve the damage, then resolve the special, those three dice (that have returned to Mace's card) can be rolled in again, but not the blank - correct?

Yup

OK, I've got it!

Thanks to all!
