Rebel Intesity Aces

By FrozenPhyro, in X-Wing Squad Lists

When I first started with x-wing, I started with the following pilots: Poe Dameron (PS8), Jake Farrell, and Kyle Katarn. This list wasn't any where close to being perfect at the time, and then intensity came out. The list I am looking at now is the following:

Kyle Katarn — HWK-290 21
Trick Shot 0
Dorsal Turret 3
Rey 2
Ship Total: 26
Jake Farrell — A-Wing 24
Intensity 2
Proton Rockets 3
Veteran Instincts 1
Autothrusters 2
A-Wing Test Pilot 0
Ship Total: 32
Poe Dameron (PS9) — T-70 X-Wing 33
Intensity 2
BB-8 2
Primed Thrusters 1
Autothrusters 2
Black One 1
Ship Total: 41

Now I like the look of the build as of right now, but don't feel it is quite there yet. Would Kyle be better off with TLT, and maybe Poe with IA to make up the points? Another option is to make Jake cheaper with G-Chips instead? What are your guys thoughts on this list?

SO, I really really like the concept, even though I am not one to support Jake, as I've never found A aces to pull their weight in damage. That being said, that build is about perfect.

For Poe, I might suggest going with Poptics: Either Poe w/ VI, Flight Assist-Astro, Advanced Optics, AT, Black One. Comes in a little cheaper, is a little bit more maneuverable (though less good at dodging bombs).

Now, as I look at it, the Kyle/Intensity Jake combo is insane! I LOVE it. I think you can optimize Kyle so he can pull more of his own in the list:

Rage

Inspiring Recruit

TLT

Title

The title lets you bank focuses for his ability, while Rage/IR lets you pull your weight offensively once the action begins. You'd want to slow roll in. However, this doesn't leave the room for Prockets, but I think its worth it.

Try Triple intensity:

This is Intense! ( 99 )

Poe Dameron (PS9) — T-70 X-Wing 33
Intensity 2
BB-8 2
Comm Relay 3
Integrated Astromech 0
Ship Total: 40
Jake Farrell — A-Wing 24
Intensity 2
Chardaan Refit -2
Veteran Instincts 1
A-Wing Test Pilot 0
Ship Total: 25
"Snap" Wexley — T-70 X-Wing 28
Intensity 2
R2-D2 4
Integrated Astromech 0
Ship Total: 34

intensity snap is gold

Just here to say that intensity Jake is not good. You only get 3 actions like PTL, because the 4th is needed to recharge Intensity. But you are locked into two repositions. PTL allows 3 actions with only one necessary reposition, obe is focus as with intensity, and the third is entirely free, so boost, evade or TL.

And this get‘s even better if you have Kyle next to him

But with Kyle next to intensity Jake, Jake could double reposition at the start of the combat phase. Should be worth something given the current PS-war?

He can still do so with PTL

Jaketensity is too complicated. His innate ability is plenty and works better with PtL.

I like Jaktensity. I find it’s demoralizing to my opponent as I speak aloud all the free actions and token assignments.

See here for details why it's not as good

I’ve read this and I disagree. I still fly A-Wings and I enjoy doing so. They are fun to fly and an be quite annoying to your opponent.

Sure they are fun and annoying, but that‘s not the same as competitively viable. So we don‘t agree unless you have other reasons.

If competitive viability is the only factor then this game will get real boring real quick. How many times can you run Mirandash or Bumpmasters before it gets stale? I played a triple arc list yesterday because I was playing Poetensity lists too often. It’s more fun to find new ways to win than to simple Google what’s winning the most and play that.

Sure. But it is then important to preface suggestions of IntensityJake with „this is fun but there is a better build“

Better is a subjective term. This ultimately is a futile discussion. I don't think I need to preface any of my statements so that they fall into your, or anyone else's, belief system. Jaketensity is fun and competitive. I tookj third place at a local tournament last Saturday playing Intensity Snap, Poe, and Jake.

Not really, in this case it‘s possible to answer it pretty objectively.

It‘s ok not wanting to discuss it, but that doesn‘t change anything

?. Ok. You’re right. Whatever you said is better. Thanks.

As another A-Wing player who has been flying them since I got into the game and include them in almost every list...the A-Wing is in one of the best places it has been... but Jake is not the king A-Wing anymore. the King A-Wing is the Green Squadron Pilot with Juke/Snap Shot/Auto-Thrusters.

I used to fly Procket Jake and Procket Tycho a lot. I feel both could have a place, but are just too expensive for what they do. In fact I would lean towards Tycho being a better choice right now as stress dealers are coming back pretty hard.

I do agree with Intensity not being all it's cracked up to be with Jake. Intensity is very fun, but it's just not as versatile overall. The A-Wing has amazing greens and shreds stress easily, so PTL isn't that big of a deal as it gives you more options and isn't as constraining. When flying Intensity Jake I often find I'm making the decision to spend the token for offense/defense/reloading intensity. Which is stupid! You take the token to spend it, not to reload intensity to get a free action.

Intensity is great on Poe for the simple fact he can hold the focus or evade with the tech upgrades. More so the evade. I think "Plot Armor" Poe is still the best Poe (R2D2/Comm Relay/Intensity/AT) as he is just super tanky and can reload intensity more effectively.

There are two other carriers of intensity I quite enjoy... Snap Wexley and Sabine.

With Snap you can get focus/evade out of him, or Focus/TL almost every turn out of him. The problem is if you need to use both tokens you need a turn to reload Intensity, just like Jake. But he works better with Intensity than PTL because Snap has way more limiting green moves.

Both sabines can take a crew, recon spec, and double focus/evade every turn with intensity, which makes it much easier to recharge intensity. The shuttle is the place for her here, where you can re position, take the evade with intensity, the double focus with Rec Spec. She's pretty tanky, and with TLT can deal consistent damage, and with 3 tokens, there is a good chance she can reload it.

Poe Dameron (PS9) — T-70 X-Wing 33
Intensity 2
BB-8 2
Comm Relay 3
Integrated Astromech 0
Ship Total: 40
Jake Farrell — A-Wing 24

Chardaan Refit -2
Veteran Instincts 1
A-Wing Test Pilot 0
Ship Total: 25
"Snap" Wexley — T-70 X-Wing 28
Intensity 2
R2-D2 4
Integrated Astromech 0
Ship Total: 34

I like the build, but would change a few things due to personal play style. The changes that I would make are in the tech slot on Poe, and adding a tech slot to Snap. Also Black One seems to make Poe and any allies nearby last longer in my local meta. So thinking something like:

Jake Farrell — A-Wing 24
Intensity 2
Chardaan Refit -2
Veteran Instincts 1
A-Wing Test Pilot 0
Ship Total: 25
"Snap" Wexley — T-70 X-Wing 28
Intensity 2
R2-D2 4
Pattern Analyzer 2
Integrated Astromech 0
Ship Total: 36
Poe Dameron (PS9) — T-70 X-Wing 33
Intensity 2
BB-8 2
Primed Thrusters 1
Integrated Astromech 0
Black One 1
Ship Total: 39

Otherwise was looking at maybe doing the following instead to get Kyle up to speed:

Jake Farrell — A-Wing 24
Intensity 2
Proton Rockets 3
Veteran Instincts 1
Guidance Chips 0
A-Wing Test Pilot 0
Ship Total: 30
Poe Dameron (PS9) — T-70 X-Wing 33
Intensity 2
BB-8 2
Primed Thrusters 1
Autothrusters 2
Black One 1
Ship Total: 41
Kyle Katarn — HWK-290 21
Trick Shot 0
Twin Laser Turret 6
Rey 2
Ship Total: 29
