Cost

By Gomeso, in L5R LCG: Rules Discussion

An extremely Facebook Post brought me to ask FFG.

The Question is are fate cost set to + 1 or honorloss +1

or

Fate +1 and Honor +1

In my opinion Both are +1 cause an ability cost ist still a cost and has to be payed.

Ageless Crone

During a conflict in which this character is participating, increase the cost for each player to play each event by 1.

Assasination

During a conflict, lose 3 honor. Choose a character with printed cost 2 or lower – discard that character. (Max 1 per round.)

No, in the RDD, there's a differentiation between Cost and Ability Cost .

You play an event by paying its cost (which refers to fate cost) and then resolve its ability, paying the Ability costs for that.

RDD, page 12:

In order to play a card, its fate cost (after modifiers) must be paid.

When an event card is played, place it on the table, resolve its ability, and place the card in its owner’s discard pile.

Ageless Crone ability refers to the cost to play events, not to the cost to initiate an ability.

My understanding is:

The cost to play the card is the number you have on the top left of the card , meaning the fate. You could add anything stated like " as an addtionnal cost to play this card, lose X honor" which it's not the case here.

The loss of honor is a mandatory part of the effect of the card and is not modified.

So it is fate cost of ageless not cost of itself

City of Lies

Action: Reduce the cost of the next event you play this phase by 1.

That's the same idea. you only reduce the cost to put the card in play, you don;t modify the later costs of the action

To play an event, you pay the cost on the top left corner of the card. Having paid the cost, you may then trigger the ability on the event, paying costs as usual.

Ageless Crone affects the former. Any costs for the triggered ability are totally separate.
