Australian Nationals for Imperial Assault *to be updated as the weekend goes*

By theaficionado, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

I know this should probably go in the organised play section, but figured it would be more visible here.

In 15 1/2 hours, the Imperial Assault Australian Nationals will be starting. I'll periodically update this post with info about the tournament, as well as with my list (though not command cards, in case some sneaky competitors decide to have a peek).

Will I be able to defend my title?

Stay tuned!

Exciting!

Thank you very much for the information, we will be attentive!

PS: as soon as the tournament is over we expect those command letters;)

Any streaming anywhere online?

Yes. Keep us posted on what lists are being played. I'm curious to see what impact the new stuff has. I predict a lot of e-Sentry Droids.

Very interested in seeing how this new meta shakes out!

Get those Imperials outta here ?

Han, Ahsoka, and Drokkata all day baby!

Good luck @theaficionado!

I am curious too! In 2 weeks we also have nationals in the Netherlands. We can get a heads up if there are new lists up for the task in a premier event to take down the regular hunter lists! Go vader :)

P.s.when will there be a week 3 discussion? I liked the first 2.

Round 1 is over!

I'm currently 1-0 with these bad boys.

Played against:

Ahsoka
Jedi Luke
Regular Alliance Rangers
Rebel High Command
Gideon
3P0
Hera

Map was Nal Hutta Swamps (Shielded)

Scored 24 points off objectives and wiped out the support units to take that one.

Field seems to be really diverse, featuring highlights such as:

Rancor + AT-DP
Double AT-DP
4 Activation Empire Beef
Wide variety of Rebels, including Han + Chewie
Lots of high activation Scum
Some lists with IG-88
Haven't seen any Ugnaughts yet.

How have I never noticed before this picture that all of the jet troopers are always giving a smooth thumbs up? Aaaaaaay!

I love the emperor’s lightning effect!

I had all but written off the eSentry Droids after seeing them play quite ineffectually a couple of times. I’m impressed that you’ve started strongly with them!

Round 2

I got there against a pretty unique team:

Leia
Jedi Luke
BT-1
Chopper
R2
Temp Alliance + Regular Changeling
Elite Jawa Scavenger

We played on Jabba's Palace with the mission being Spoils of Crime.

BT-1 moved out ready to be commanded by Leia, but the Emperor and some troopers smashed the droid to bits before he got the second shot off. From there, it quickly went south for the Rebels, as the Emperor got some solid damage on Luke next round (before being chopped to bits), and the Jets cleaned up the Changeling, then Luke, and eventually Leia too.

Round 3

I managed to get there once again against a Rebel Team:

Ahsoka
Elite Rangers
Gideon
3P0
Chopper
Jarod
Kotun

We played on Anchorhead Bar. The mission? Line of Fire.

After an Inspiring Speech by an Imperial Officer, a pair of Jet Troopers shot down Jarod who was sitting on the top Terminal. Chopper was taken out immediately by the Emperor with a Sentry Droid, leaving the Rebels two units down before the second turn had begun. Lots of firepower was exchanged round two, but a New Orders on my Jets was a pretty big deal, and the Empire cleaned up the Rebel remnant the following turn. Props to Gideon, who delivered great damage all throughout.

Props @theaficionado! And that's sweet how diverse the lists are! This is how the game should be ??????

Round 4 is over.

And I took out a classic Hunter list on Gaining Favour.

2 x Equays
Onar
Vinto
Jabba
Hera
3P0

After an appalling start of 3 Xs for Vinto and needing to ditch 2 of my starting 4 cards just to keep a Sentry alive, the mid game was a huge exchange of fire, with a group of Jets and Equays falling before even activating! The battle continued into T3, with the big swing around coming when the Emperor dropped 2 Equays and Vinto, as well as the last remaining Sentry taking a shot at Onar. The following turn, the Emperor brought down the mighty hunter with a wave of lightning and yet another commanded shot, sealing the game.

I end the day 4-0, one of two players at 4-0.

The Top 8, in order:

Empire 4-0
Empire 4-0
Scum 3-1
Rebel 3-1
Rebel 3-1
Scum 3-1
Scum 2-2
Rebel 2-2

20 players in total.

Is Vader or Palp in the other Empire list?

the more I'm thinking about it, the emperor may be one of the best rising figures in the game. His damage output is insane (and crazy absurd in the rare case he somehow pulls off an attack and force lightning in addition to tempting and emperoring Another attack.)

Vader AND Palp are in the other list.

Top 8 Lists as follows:

1st: Michael (Empire 3-0 + Regionals bye)
Darth Vader + Driven By Hatred
Emperor Palpatine
Captain Terro
Elite Jet Troopers
2 x Regular Imperial Officer
Zillo Technique

2nd: Kenny (Empire 4-0)
Emperor Palpatine
2 x Elite Jet Troopers w Targeting Computer
2 x Regular Imperial Officer
Elite Sentry Droids
Rule By Fear
Zillo Technique

3rd: Dutch (Scum 3-1)
2 x Elite Weequay Pirate
Vinto Hreeda
Onar Koma
Jabba the Hutt
Hera Syndulla
C-3P0
Temporary Alliance
Black Market
Devious Scheme

4th: Evan (Rebels 3-1)
Elite Alliance Ranger
Gideon Argus
C-3P0
Ahsoka Tano
Jarrod Kelvin
Ko-Tun Ferralo
CI-I0P

5th: Josh (Rebels 3-1)
Han Solo + Rogue Smuggler
Chewbacca + Wookiee Avenger
C-3P0
Gideon Argus
Regular Alliance Smuggler
Elite Alliance Ranger

6th Jason (Scum 3-1)
Elite Weequay Pirate
Regular Hired Gun
Greedo
Onar Koma
Elite Jawa Scavenger
BT-1 w Targeting Computer
C-3P0
Jabba the Hutt
Black Market

7th Liam (Scum 2-2)
Bantha Rider
Beast Tamer
Regular Hired Gun
2 x Elite Weequay Pirate
C-3P0
Gideon Argus
Vinto Hreeda
Temporary Alliance
Devious Scheme

8th Daniel (Rebels 2-2)
Han Solo + Rogue Smuggler
Chewbacca + Wookiee Avenger
Ahsoka Tano
Davith Elso
Gideon Argus
C-3P0
Heroic Effort

Which means my matchup tomorrow is against Liam with the Bantha.

There's a lot of irony here. For those who don't know, last year, when I won nationals, I won by playing a Bantha and using it to stomp Imperial troops into the ground.

Now the circle is complete. I am the Empire, and I face a stompy Beast.

Edited by theaficionado

My imperial list is indeed 2 officers and Terro instead of the second ejets.

Cheers for the write up Kenny, I'll do one when I get home on Monday. I'm taking some notes this time soon don't forget things.

And fixed @Inquisitorsz :)

Man, I hope Regionals and Worlds continue this trend of awesomeness! Still reveling in this list diversity ?

Surprised no clawdites up there or Iggy. I think the elite claw is pretty balling

thanks for keeping us updated!

I totally agree. 2 of each faction in the top 6! It is nice to see so much variety. I do actually think there is a good balance between the 3 factions at the moment. I would not be surprised if this continues at least till the next expansion! But who knows maybe a certain type of list will dominate in the next months.

I agree that it's just unusual to not see any shapeshifters. Maybe the Aussies aren't using him?

@theaficionado How many Clawdites are running about?

Not too sure actually. Apart from the Regular one in my second opponent's list, I don't remember seeing very many at all. There were also surprisingly few Iggys. Given the two go pretty well together, the lack of one, in my eyes, explains the lack of the other.
