Scrambler Missiles

By Celestial Lizards, in X-Wing

I am seriously wondering if the epic Jam action will be changed to use jam tokens.

While I know that an expansion should come with everything needed, if the epic jam action simply changed “assign two stress tokens” to “assign two Jam tokens” we get a more consistent ruleset.

Along similar lines, an epic ship with ordinance tubes may very well love these missiles.

Finally, how long till we get a system slot that adds jam tokens, like an wide area jammer?

I really wish the language for tokens allowed for more generic effects so that jam and Old T and Carnor etc. could wipe out reinforce as well. It's pretty ridiculous that reinforce is exempt from all these effects.

whats the card text?

Scrambler Missiles (2 pts)

Attack: 3

Range: 2-3

Attack (target lock): Discard this card to perform this attack.

If this attack hits, the defender and each other ship at Range 1 receives 1 jam token. Then cancel all results.

The missile sucks. Back of the binder it goes.

I'll definitely be putting them on my bare-bones Viktor Hel alongside VI/Guidance Chips, PRS, Failsafe and Ion Dischargers. He (and all other non-missile Kihraxzes) struggle to push through enough damage, and I think this is going to be a great 1 point buff.

On the other hand, Swarms are now dead forever. It's utterly pointless to run 5-8 ships that utterly depend on tokens to survive if a throwaway 2-point missile can prevent them from doing anything meaningful for a turn.

Am I right in thinking this missile messes with Deadeye Starwings and Advanced Optics Poe? Worth another look at all?

For casual at least, go for it! I think a very high-PS ship that doesn't neccesarily need its missile could take it as a backup, in case you do run into a Deadeye list. Vader springs to mind, for example. Proton Rockets are nice on him, but Scramblers might be interesting... I'll have to test that out!

I was thinking on Veteran Instincts Han Solo. Might try it, but I guess you are giving up your chance to do damage.

There are better things to spend your points on if you have Han.

Yeah, I was thinking that myself. It's kind of an interesting random element to add in though!

Too bad interesting =/= good though :(

In casual, if you have 25 extra points, this could be fun:

•Serissu (25) - M3-A "Scyk" Interceptor
Veteran Instincts (1), "Heavy Scyk" Interceptor (2), Scrambler Missiles (2)

Edit: I want to clarify that it's still stupid and a lot worse than putting a Harpoon, Cruise, or HLC on there...

I mean, so does Jamming Beam for one less point and no discard.

See also: Fel’s Wrath.

I ran dash with crimson specialist. Had 2pts left over so threw scramblers on there. Played against 4 gunboats (3 deadeye rhos and a LRS Nu). Was ducking and diving like a boss, boosting or barrel rolling into range 1 when I had too in order to evade being harpooned, but eventually one deadeye rho had me in his sights, so instead of trading 4 dice attacks, i just scrambled his focus token so I only took a naked 2 die primary. Dash never got harpooned all game.

About the only time I ever thought scramblers were cool.

In the FAQ it still states that when Fel’s Wrath quantum PS kills the last ship in the game other than himself, the game ends in a tie and breaks cryodex.

Just wait till that one game where Thweek copies Fel's Wrath's ability and each one kills the other to end the game. I'm pretty sure that's how the world ends.

No Damage, 1 time attack. The jury has been out before this came to release, regardless of area of effect.

So on jamming tokens we have been here before. They really are more of a sticky stress token. Much like blocking thanks to accretion there is just too much mitigation to losing your tokens. Back in the day getting a stress token left you to the tender mercies of Han or whisper while getting blocked left you for dead in the middle of a tie swarm or BBBBZ. Now thanks to things like Expertise and collision detector token control doesn't have an effect it once had.

They need something similar to a TIE/D title, to throw one of these, and then have a primary attack.

If not, it's very circumstantial to exchange your attack for this. Even on TIE/D i prefer to take ION Cannon.

Well exactly! Isn't that what they're for? I know the correct answer is to spend 2 points on something else I guess, just find it really tempting.
