Interceptor-class frigate thread

By RufusDaMan, in X-Wing

I think this is the most likely candidate for the Scum corvette, so let's talk about it.

Used by the Black Sun and the Zann Consortium, both give plenty of opportunities to add characters. It has several lazors and torpedo launchers, and has an ambiguous size throughout Legends, and can be easily scaled to look cool in X-wing. It also has the right kind of shape.

What do you guys think? Would you like it? Would you want something else?

Well, I think the Star Jewel is the most likely candidate, because Jabba.

OTOH, since this is based off the Action VI, I would be much more excited to see it produced as the Wilde Karrde, with all the attendant crew and references to the Zhan novels that would entail.

And the Wild Karrde would make me very excited.

We already have Jabba, and the Star Jewel is ugly :/ I'm neutral about Karrde. But then the ace ship would have to be a Z-95 with a fix for 2 attack ships :D

Seriously??

This thing looks like a can-opener in space!! Hershey Syrup squadron, reporting for duty!!

And I think you shot down my TIE Scout cuz "ugly." So, what is a sexy ship for you??

But seriously, the main thing I would give as a negative to the frigate is a lack of lore. The Wild Karrde is essentially the same ship (and could be modded out with Titles, etc.) but with some storyline to it. This **** game needs to be Star Wars first, and a great game right behind that.

I would never say a bad word about my beautiful Scout!

Oh, right. You called me a "tasteless buffoon."

I guess all I remembered was the negativism and not the context. :o  :P

the wilde card looks like a dust buster. ugliest ship in star wars.

P.s. Star Jewel is not based on an action 4! its shaped like an arrowhead with fins, no hard lines at all. also nearly 4 times the size

We could get more ships for the other factions. We don't have to stop at 2 huge ships for each primary and call it the end of Epic development.

Hopefully not. Scum faction also contains Mercenaries, which would entitle a frigate/corvette/attack cruiser. Crusader class corvette, anyone? :)

Not a yacht, which even if it is highly armed (Star Yewel has less and weaker armament than CR90 and Raider), still is a *yacht* and will not be used for attack runs. So basically the same role as the C-Roc (armed transport), maybe just beefier, restricting a lot what scenarios you can do with the thing.

Then is it even really huge, longer than the Raider and the CR90. FFG would have to compromise hard with the scale and probably model the retractable spines as retracted.

Wait, is the Interceptor class the same as what the Wild Karrde is, or is my memory getting mixed up?

It's been a long day. :)

Almost. The Wild Karrde is a modified CEC Action VI Transport. The Interceptor-class Frigate is an Action VI which has been extensively rebuilt and up-armed for combat duty.

Could one model be used to represent both ships? There's plenty of cosmetic differences between the two, but I don't see why not.

My vote is for the Crusader-class Corvette. It's a beautiful ship whereas the Star Jewel and Wild Karrde are two of the ugliest ships in Star Wars lore.

Personally I just want the Sorosuub Luxury Yacht 3000 for Scum. At 50 meters long it's small for an Epic ship, but like the Gozanti it could be done 1/270 scale. And it's canon.

Plus it could give us Scum Lando, Mara Jade, Hondo Ohnaka, K'Armyn Viraxo and a whole slew of gambling-related title cards. And who wouldn't want a starship with a swimming pool on it?

The small Scum Epic has already been released. Next will be a corvette-sized ship to bring balance to the Force.

I'd rather see an Action-VI as the scum 'corvette', with limited hard points, extra cargo slots.. And a suite of upgrades that let you trade cargo for extra weapons hard points, armor, limited fighter docking, etc. That way if you want to run it as a support craft like the GR75 you can.. But if you are willing to invest the points, you can basically build an interceptor-VI, in the form of a Q-Ship.

Plus, some of those upgrade cards could be designed to work with the other epics. Imagine a 'concealed weapons' upgrade that let's you trade a cargo for a hardpoint being used to uparm a GR75, something that has occurred in legends. Or a 'docking refit' card that trades cargo for 2fighter docks being applied to the CR-90 or Raider to replicate Rebels and Battlefront2.

Obviously there would be limits to help balance things (so you don't get uberships) but that could be fun.

It comes with Prince Xizor crew:

Prince Xizor (Crew, 8 points, unique)
"Epic Play Only. | Increase the squad point cost of friendly ships by three. Decrease the squad point cost of upgrades equipped to friendly ships by one."

Xizor likes the finest things, and he likes a lot of them.

That's quite janky

Only if it has lasers and not "lazors."

Disagree.

Pfff. Unimpressive. It must be the Marauder-Class Corvette.

I really dislike this mentality. Asymmetry is a beautiful element in game design that is ruined by that kind of 'balance'.

Oh, it is canon now! Nice!

Since Jabba is already in the game, I don't see why releasing his (hideous) Star Jewel.

It is the logical next step to release a "combat" Scum epic ship, and I think the Interceptor-class fits very well. I see no problem of it coming with Wild Karrde title and Talon Karrde crew. Alongside a Scumy Mara Jade's (repainted) Z-95 would be a blast. Lots of important Legends characters to cover.

Problem with the Marauder-class (apparently now canon too) is that it's a little too big and with a shape that reminds more of a Star Trek vessel.

And the Crusader-class (the best looking of them) is still not canon.

A crusader would have to come with Zann... That's its main redeeming feature :D

FFG Stats for the Interceptor IV:
Hull 40, System Strain 20, Armor 2
Shields 3/2/2/2 (Forward, Port, Star, Aft)
Customization Hard Points: 4

One port and one starboard turbolaser
cannon batteries (Fire Arc Port or Starboard; Damage
11; Critical 3; Range [Long]; Breach 4; Slow-Firing 2).
Forward-mounted concussion missile launcher (Fire
Arc Forward; Damage 6; Critical 3; Range [Short];
Blast 4, Breach 4, Guided 3, Limited Ammo 3, SlowFiring 2).

In comparison the Raider from the RPG Books:
Hull 45, System Strain 25, Armor 5
Shields 2/2/2/2,
Customization Hard Points: 2

Chin-mounted twin light turbolasers (Fire Arc Forward: Damage 9; Critical 3; Range[Medium] Breach 2, Linked 1, Slow Firing 1).
Three port and three starboard retractable turret mounted twin heavy laser cannons (Fire Arc Forward and Port or Forward and Starboard; Damage 6, Critical 3; Range[Short]; Accurate 2, Linked 1).
Chin Mounted ion cannon(Fire Arc Forward; Damage 9; Critical 4; Range [Medium]; Breach 3, Ion, Slow-Firing 2).

So yeah, that Interceptor IV sounds like a perfect match for the raider. The armor is a lot lighter and FFG gave it more customisation hardpoints, meaning it can take even more weapons or upgrades. Like for example bringing the armor to 3, adding a forward turbolaser-battery … sounds plenty valid.

I still would prefer to see the Marauder :P
