Resistance Falcon

By Kilrex, in X-Wing

The Falcon is referenced as a Resistance ship in the Heroes of the Resistance rule insert. I am guessing they only mean the pilots and title that comes with the set are part of the Resistance.

1) New pilot with old title counts as Resistance?

2) Old pilot with new title counts as Resistance?

Just trying to figure out options for use with the B/SF title.

Needs FAQ naow.

Red background with white rebel logo on the pilot card = resistance pilot

that is all

Go back and read the rules that come with the Force Awakens core set. It's all clearly explained in there. The pilot determines faction and sub-factions.

Just the pilot card matters.

Thanks folks!

Edit: Never bothered to read the Force Awakens rule book. Started with the first set and didn't see the point...

If in doubt, once all alternative approaches have been tried and failed, read the instructions ;D

Faction ID is right there next to the title bar. It's not much of a difference, but the card is marked Resistance vs. Rebel version.

Well, to be fair, it hasn't mattered that much until now.

It has. . .a tiny bit. Tech upgrades are a non-OT ship thing, so Resistance and FO only. It's like @Stay On The Leader said in the other thread, if you can break the game into smaller pools of ships, upgrades are easier to balance within those sub sets.

Someday, maybe the game will get to the point where it's:

Light Side = Rebels, Resistance and Republic

Dark Side = Empire, FO and CiS

Neutral = Scum, Villainy and Mercenaries (or some such)

And, for example, an upgrade might be "Mercenary Only" or "Bounty Hunter Only."

I like the idea of the Bounty Hunter faction, but so many are already in game they would have to FAQ them.

Hes not saying as a new faction but as a set that exists throughout all factions. It would make Imperial Boba eligible for upgrades that are "Bounty Hunters only"

IMHO, XWM 3.0 should be more about codifying factions, sub-factions, "careers" (BH, Pirate, Black Sun, Hutts), adding squadron mechanics, and reprinting inaccurate cards than worrying about specific ships needing upgrades.

The latter can be done as it is now.

resistance is futile!

Aside from flavor (i.e. OT only tournaments and the like), not really. Yes, sequel only ships have tech slots, but it would be that way even if they had not gone with the subfactions. Heck, Scum didn't get a subfaction but got a tech slot. Up until this point, there was nothing in the cards that truly distinguished the subfactions. Now that there is, I am interested in seeing where they go from here. I am all for more effects like this, though I am sad that some things I would like to be subfactions (like Mandalorians or Black Sun) were introduced too early to get that kind of distinction.

At some point a retrospective look at the whole game would be useful for BOTH gameplay and fluff.

Agreed, though the way and timing to do so can be a tricky knot to figure out.

Timing wise, after Episode 9 would seem to be the way to go. The FO and Resistance will have had their runs, and you have 3 movies in each era of canon.

"How" would be to keep it in the back of FFGs mind for the next 2 years of design. Slowly introduce elements and ships into the game that flesh out subfactions and "careers" and them make them official keywords at some point. @Marinealver has done some nice thinking on the subject of subfactions; FFG just needs to starting thinking that way, too.

Unfortunately, I don't think they look at this game as a "world," but rather as a collection of toys in a sandbox. Which is a pity, given the diversity of the IP.

Well now subfactions are starting to have an effect on the game. :)

Unfortunately for now it is only one sub-faction the Resistance. Maybe the TIE Silencer has some friendly 1st Order stuff.

There could be. There is test pilot (again with the unique generic names) and a coupe of upgrade cards that could hide some friendly 1st order shenanigans, but odds are probably not.

Well, fair, not "First Order Only" anyway.

The difference is really quite easy to find. Just check the ship cards.

The other unique is almost certainly 'When attacking, if the attack is obstructed, you may roll 2 additional attack dice'. The spacing of the wording is too similar to Trick Shot.

Debris... is almost certainly 'Action: assign 1 evade token to your ship for each obstacle at range 1, to a maximum of 2 tokens'.

The only thing that could conceivably have a First Order based thing in it is the Tech in the top left. That and the costs and EPT status of the ships, and the dial are all we genuinely don't know yet.
