I really enjoyed this. I'm so looking to my first game.

It was everything we'd been hyping it up in our minds to be. If you already love Twilight Imperium, everything in this is familiar, yet a breath of fresh air. My heart was racing when we first started, and I thought I was going to have a heart attack as I raced towards my Saar victory. These are emotions that plastic and cardboard made me feel

When you said your people were discussing whether you "deserved" victory or not, and you were getting sort of emotional, that's the moment when I truly felt it, I felt with you!

I still don't agree with you regarding the easier way to research techs. I like that now you don't really think whether you're going to purchase tech or not but which one you need the most. In TI3 it always seemed kind of flawed that there were techs that NEVER saw action because of their price. Now you get to research more and you can always adapt to new challenges and situations. You are only able to do this if you really think about which technology you need to achieve your goals with, since everybody will often purchase tech as well, and you have to keep pace with them. In TI3 you could always predict what techs e.g. the Hacan player would have at the end of round 2, of round 3 and so on. Purchasing technology was only a matter of resource management, while the "path" was more or less the same for each race. Now, you don't need to worry that much any more about resources but the technologies and their benefits themselves.

I really enjoyed listening to the podcast on my drive home. This is actually the very first time I listen to a podcast.

I also agree with most things you said, except also for not liking the technology. Yes it god a bit more simplified but as Panaleon said, in the old tree some techs just never saw play unless under very specific circumstances (or by jolnar who ran out of things to research).

Now any race can realistically get to any tech, but they will somewhat have to commit to it.

As for the amount of tech : I normally never buy tech round 1, those resources are almost always better spent in ships and ground forces. Since most games go to round 7 or 8 this gives people an average of 7 tech to buy. My specific play style reduces that to 5 usually. This means I will get to buy one racial, a full color and maybe something else. This sounds pretty nice to me as the decision of which color I invest in will heavily impact my game.
