Phantom II pilot AP 5 pilot ability. a question.

By toffolone, in X-Wing Rules Questions

As you may know, the sheathipede class shuttle (a.k.a. Phantom II) lowest skill pilot AP5 has the following ability:

When you perform the coordinate action, after you choose a friendly ship and before it performs a free action, you may receive 2 stress tokens to remove 1 stress token from it

My question is: How can I choose a ship with a stress token? If it is stressed, then it cannot make free actions, therefore should not be a viable choice for the coordinate action from AP5.

Or is it all correct and so I could choose to coordinate a ship with two strees tokens just in order to take out one. Then I could not perform the free action granted by coordinate.

What am I missing?

The sequence goes:

AP5 uses Co-ordinate

- AP5 chooses a ship. If it's stressed, he receives 2 stress and removes one from it.

- If it's now unstressed, it can perform a free action it hasn't done yet this round.

I suspect he will be able to use his ability purely to remove stress from ships, but we won't know for sure unless it's FAQed.

Bolded text, nuff said. AP5 trades the stress on the target for two on him.

ap5 with inspiring recruit and an r2 astro may well be worth it, if nothing else than to be a Schrodinger's biggs so he doesn't get left to force multiply the rest of the lists damage with extra actions..... and only 17 points

I'd fully expect that to be how AP5 gets played, though maybe with R4D6 or M9G8 depending on the dial. He's goign to be a super cheap source of extra actions and stress clearance and it's gonna be nice.

holy snap, it just occurred to me that this opens up triple action and full dials on ptl/ei aces without crew slots.....

/mother of god meme.........

Actually I was thinking: AP5 with chopper astromech, courier dorid crew, title, and guidance chip.

16 points and recovers his shield up to 3 times.

But is often going to be double stressed with no way to clear both in a round.

Inspiring Recruit is going to be basically stapled to this guy.

Don't use it to take stress. It is basically a free action on near ships that cost only 16 points.

If you want to use it as stress reliever, than of course inspiring recruit is a must.

Also, you cannot equip the title unless you have a VCX-100 with the Ghost title instructing you to equip the Phantom II title. Phantom II doesn't even identify itself as a title.
