How do you list-build if you aren't interested in the highest efficiency?

By Blail Blerg, in Star Wars: Armada

I pick the ship that looks prettiest, I then find a commander and other ships that seem to work with it, and then I always add in squadrons because that's how I Star Wars.

I also have absolutely no idea whatsoever what is the meta. And, I have put NebBs in every Rebel build I have ever made since wave 1 (except one Akbar list, when I bought my first MC30), because that frigate is the sexiest ship in the game.

@Blail Blerg i am picking up that you have a clear categorisation of what you deem as 'jank' and what you define as 'optimally competitive'. And because of this, you only see a limited pool of fleet archetypes to build and find it boring to stay within those achetypes.

Past evidence has shown you can build anything and win so long as you have a specific plan for it. Examples include:

Store Champs (mine) - AvengerBT, 2 raiders, 4 gozantis / 0 squadrons (in a squadron full meta mind you)

Australian National Champion 2017 - 2 MC80, 2 GR75 / 2 Squadrons (who also demolished my 8 activation AvengerBT list and in a squadron full meta)

GenCon 2017 Champion - ISD, Quasar, Goz / 8 squadrons

Nova 2017 Champion - Riekkan ace list (post riekkan faq)

German National Champion 2016 - 8 Gozanti / 12 squadrons

World Champion 2016 - Afkm2b, mc30, 3x gr75 / 12 squadrons

And countless other examples out there im sure where even probably a pelta or interdictor was the flag ship in the winning list.

So i guess my point is there is no such thing as an 'optimal' fleet, there is however preferred play style. So no need to get bored, try what you think is 'jank' and you might discover something!

Much respect for your data.

I understand this. That's not the issue. Its that I find it boring.

I predicted 5 ship rieekan mass squadrons long before it got to winning 3 nationals, multiple regionals and top3/4 of worlds.
1. Is a great list with 7 activations and the AvengerBT delete-tap. First last, classic activation control.
2. This is actually my current competitive list. Blopping people with double Home ones and Ackbar. I've made the same thing. And I'm the poster child of fighting against mass squadron meta.
3. squadron + ISD alpha strike, reminiscent of the 2 ship ISD Gladiator things that won a few times in high tournaments.
4. I'm on record saying Rieekan was still strong. I'm literally on freaking record on what I thought was a good meta post faq.
5. Yeah lol, this is hilarious.
6. I predicted this. And the runner up, and the 4th place, and 5/8 of the worlds. Did you mean 2017 worlds?

These are all very understandable fleets, and these are to answer your question, my standards of competitive.

That rigid mindset is game for creativity to exploit.

The list I took to GenCon was not built to be the highest efficiency, as you described. It was, as I've mentioned earlier, to explore the concept of "how much cardboard can I put on a ship?" It was also to address "how many named squadrons can I fit in a list?" I've been routinely throttled for bringing other dumb ideas to the table. Double JJ redundant shield ISDs, what could go wrong? Nothing, that's right.

The final tweaks to the Gencon list were in the interest of efficiency. During the journey, it was a fly by the seat of your pants list that was fun to play. Only now, in hindsight, that list is understandable and on your "power builds".

Blail, find a play buddy who will do the hard graft for you. Someone who cares more about creating innovative lists than winning.

Nobody does everything, honestly just sounds like you need the right partner in crime.

If you love star wars and love this game you should find something fun to play even when is not optimal. If you don't you're not enjoying playing either loosing. If that's the case the problem is you (without any intention to be offensive). Just step back from the competitive mindset and get a good time with a friend and a beer to blame nebs sides, vics speed, etc.
