I like the idea that certain units could be hired for any army but that does not remove the option for a third scum faction. IMO it even encouges the the idea that Black sun or the huts are big criminal organizations that can also hire those bounty hunter to fight along them or even pact alliances for their own interests etc...

If I were to add the Black Sun or the Hutt Cartel as a 3rd Major Faction (and not the army in a box idea), I think having all the different named bounty hunters as Special Forces units would work.

wookies.....very much wookies as 3rd army!!

They'd work well as an 'Army In A Box' mini-faction, although don't have enough to be their own faction in general.

yes...but if able to include some from epI-III maybe a small army (hence the army in a box). wunderbar.

Grakkus the Hutt from the new Marvel Comics would make for a great Miniature and different type of commander.

Would love to see clone war models well before FFG do scum and villany.

Grakkus is one of my favourite new canon characters.

“In Grakkus’ arena, the most dangerous thing, is Grakkus”

Gungans!!!!!!!

Totally doubt that they’ll introduce a whole other faction. For reasons I’ve mentioned in the bajillion other threads that have talked on this subject.

BUT I wouldn’t be surprised if they introduced a fringe faction, whom you can take 1-2 units from to support either rebels or imperials. But like a grey area. Can’t make a force of their own but could be hired by Imps or Rebs to bolster their forces.

would be a grand opportunity to work in bounty hunters or some other iconic units into the game without undermining the idea and scale of the games’ nake sake - legion.

could possibly have a rogue style effect as some of the fighters in Armada have. Maybe they can activate any time any turn regardless of the commander. Don’t get given command tokens? Always activate last? - but with a benefit to offset that strategic issue.

With all due respect, as we are all guessing and speculative, I believe the only proper way to bring in the scum faction is by creating a whole new faction. Factions in a box leave little room for that group to grow with the rest of the game. Neutral units that can be played on either side will become stale, as every time you play youll see the same units whether its Rebels or Imps. And the rebels hiring Jabba is just an odd suspension of disbelief. Because we know the units we'll see first are the GCW. Jabba, Boba, and the rest of the hunters.

From a marketing/profit point of view, all the playtesting and R&D that would go into adding, changing, bending, and breaking the current rule set to add neutral units seems unlikely to sell a handfull of units.

A new faction on the other hand... well the rules are complete. And people with buy into it with big dollars. No additional R&D needed. Im not saying it's likely we'll see a 3rd faction. But if Scum was introduced, a whole faction would make the most sense from a gameplay, profit, and marketing point of view.

I desperately want an army of Tusken Raiders and I tend to agree with this. I think the game stays very much Rebels v Imps and you see a release of Fett and Bossk, for example, countered with Han & Chewy. Both are upgrade units to the Imps and Rebels. Maybe, you see an Emperor countered with a ROTJ Luke. You get all things Scraif/Death Troopers /Krennic and, then, you get Pathfinders/Saw's Partisans/Jyn or Cassian.

My thoughts are expansion with this game more thoughtful and planned. Figures require painting. Sunken costs of money and time. I do not see any of them being made obsolete due to power creep, as product is pushed for profit. I do not think the game out right expands beyond those 2 for some time.

I think the primary factions are kept front and center and anything else ... for a fairly long period of time ... will augment one or the other and not compete with either.

Not happy about it. Just feel it is more practical and measured for the launch of a something new.

Adding factions seems to be a function of game design and the desire for variety. Like most people the idea of playing with and against the same list over and over doesn’t appeal to me.

After having played Armada for a fair while, my initial response is to question the need for more factions? In Armada the various admirals would provide various advantages to certain units, so you tended to get quite a fair amount of variety and game play options for that choice. Taking Admiral Tarken would probably see you take a completely different style of fleet than a fleet commanded by Darth Vader or Motti.

With wave 1 we get Leia/Luke or Darth Vader/Veers and those choices, with the absence of rules I can’t be certain, but, hopefully these choices will provide differences to the army choices that will in effect create 4 quite different play experiences.

In the other games I have played where you did have many factions, the game design was often quite a considerable factor. In Flames of War the special rules for the various nationalities was often the biggest point of difference, closely followed by the various units available to players for taking that nationality. Mind you, FoW has a crazy amount of variety, three distinct periods of the conflict, multiple theatres of conflict, many distinct nationalities and then the game system can be extended into other time periods and conflicts.

In 40K each army seemed to have about 2-4 very clear archetypes, and while there may be some variation based on player preference, the strategic theme didn’t have a huge variation in it. Throw in that players would also dictate and affect army composition via sportsmanship (may have changes since I played) and that further flattened out the more extreme types of lists and further watered down the choices.

Now, while I only play X-Wing on the odd occasion for a fun game, I found that when Scum came out as a faction they got more ships with each release, and now we seem to get three new ships each wave. I would like to see as large a variety of units, commanders and cards for the 2 factions we have before we slow down and introduce a third faction.

Perhaps some of the iconic characters are introduced as units that fit in to the existing framework, Bobba Fett could just be a “Special Choice” that gives you a non-command character that fights along side your army. I don’t know how thematic this may be, when you get to Jabba the Hutt, but maybe his barge and a unit of henchmen come as part of a wave.

Mind you if we do get more factions I am not going to take my bat and ball and run off. I just question the necessity of this as an idea.

I just really hope there is so much content and support for this game that is can endlessly throw money at it.... my life will be complete

Yeah he really surprised me and I like the design of him and that he’s a “relic” collector.

And hes swole

I personally would love to see more factions available to play as. Scum, battle droids, clone army, the more the better. The miniatures look great so far, i think they will do well on the market.

In the mean time the good news is the minis are unassembled (albeit not much required) and unpainted. There is some room for customization and kit bashing. Honestly you could easily paint up your storm troopers as clones.. or convert some rebels into a scum/mercenary force.
