Q: Kotei Series Dusseldorf

By Dydra, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

I have noticed that for a while now the Dusseldorf venue for 19th-20th of May remains unannounced.

I'm hoping that someone from the community who is organizing this (or their friends) can give us an idea if we should book a hotel within the city center or somewhere else?
Yes, still some time left from now, but we would like to book everything as early as possible.

Cheers,
Dydra

For some reason the venue has already been announced by Asmodee Germany but the ffg page never got the update. The kotei will take place at the Jugendherberge Düsseldorf.

Wow man!! Thanks so much!

Is there any Event-Page on FB or online that I can follow for news?

Am I reading this correctly that it will be at a youth hostel?
18th and 19th of May everything is taken = GG? =(

There's a huge L5R crowd in Germany, and my guess the event was advertised first on german community forums and FB pages.

Still, I'll find a way to attend that Kotei. accommodation should not be too difficult to find.

I agree, but it would make a difference to me if I need to spend 100 EUR for hotel or 200 EUR for hotel ( because only Hilton left for example ) =) This is why I'm trying to book now ... 6 months in advance lol

Also I want to learn about the tournament structure - Day 1 Saturday - Day 2 on Sunday. What time starts Day 2? Where is the cut? ( Top32 / top 16 ) because need to appropriately schedule flight back

Yes, it is a youth hostel. The problem is that there's an Anime/Japan Convention at the same time. That's probably why it's booked out already. However, Asmodee is in talks with the hostel to see if the kotei attendees may booked a bed through them instead of doing it directly with the hostel. It seems to me like not all beds and rooms are booked but rather reserved.

Regarding the official page: I haven't seen one yet. It may be that Asmodee is using Facebook or Twitter but I haven't checked that out yet. At the very least, they're using the german message boards on their homepage. Don't know if your German is any good.

I could offer to translate and post any news we get there in here, if that helps.

Thanks again for all the details!

Even through booking.com those dates were HOT with few rooms left in many places. Would definitely be interested in booking rooms at the venue if possible, so please keep us posted about that or any other details they share!

We can then expect a good amount of raid groups on the local Ramen shops =) I also noticed that there is a Korean BBQ place, so looking forward to that as well!

Instead of the Ramen shops, I might be more interested in all those fancy dressed female cosplayers that will roam the place while we try to focus on the game. Good times for singles though!

Has anyone found/heard/read any news regarding the Kotei in Düsseldorf?

They announced that the registration on Saturday is between 8 and 9:30 and the first round will start at 10. They also told us that we can expect the booking details this month

8 and 9:30 what time? Also where is the registration link? Where it was announced? Michelle was supposed to post in FB group =(

Sorry, I was assuming everyone was using the local time of the event (If you wonder, it is 8:00 AM). The registration link is not out there yet, it is to be published this month. This Information was given in the official forum.

Here is the link to the german forum https://forum.asmodee.de/viewtopic.php?f=910&t=26800&hilit=kotei

After reading some guy on the FB group :

I don't mean this saturday for the registration! These are just the starting times for the Kotei on Saturday, in May !

Some updates for people considering to attend this Kotei:

Tickets have been available since 02.02.2018
Price for event is ` - 40 EUR (including participating in all main and side events in the 2 days). There are some lunches and dinners planned and u can read all about it here: https://www.eventbrite.de/e/l5r-kotei-dusseldorf-tickets-42647897008

As the page states

" Once you have bought your ticket you will get a confirmation email. You will get another email within 14 days with a information about booking an accomodation nearby "

Now, to my investigation, there have been some reservations by Asmodeee Germany in the Hostel to allow player accommodations within the hostel facility where the tournament will be. Based on this, myself and some friends "rushed" the ticket purchase within minutes of ticket sale opening. Hoping that there will be some logical "first come, first served" principles here. Sadly, this doesn't appear to be the case. Almost 13 days later, we received an e-mail offering us "discounted" accommodations at a hotel nearby costing between 88EUR and 100EUR per night (for 1 and 2 person respectively). For comparison the prices at the hostel website run in the range of 30 EUR -to 50 EUR. I'm very eager to understand why this situation happened and I'm really hoping there wasn't any "foreigners second" policy rolled out in terms of accommodations.

@Dydra There was no earlierer offer for german customers for the Flat. It is just that the Hostel where the Kotei is was totally booked out before Asmodee could book enough rooms there. So everybody gets the nearby hotel email, regardless if you are a foreigner or not. I also got mine yesterday.

And regarding the prices in the Hotel where the kotei is : Yes, sometimes you can find there slots for ~30€ but I booked a room there when the date and location was announced (so long ago) and for a double room with my girlfriend I am paying 178€ für two nights, so not that much cheaper then the recommended Hotel by asmodee.

Well, thanks for the update. Really not possible for me to go through the entire thread on Asmodee.de forums and understand what is the reason. I already made reservations in another place (as I'll be staying in Dusselford and the area for a few more days).

Will see you all on the Kotei!

You would not really find a (satisfying) reason. Apparently, there has been some miscommunication, so two events happen at that place at the same time. I'll also be staying in another hotel (Carls Düsseldorf).

I'm looking forward to meet you all there :)

And for those of you who want to have a special party on Saturday night : At Dokomi (the anime convention in parallel) is a J-Rave disco. It was quite funny last time (you don't need tickets for the cons for this but special tickets for the party)

There is also the BBQ event on Saturday Night by asmodee ... I was thinking most of the players would go to that? =)
I'm personally on the brink of declining, because of the accommodations fiasco, but will decide on the spot I guess.

Why would you decline? And I wouldn't really call that a fiasco. They offer you a close Hotel for a relativly cheap price (it's pentecost weekend after all). If you share your room then 50€ per night per person including breakfast is a cheap price. Just go around and look what other hotels in germanys big cities cost at that weekend

Carls Hotel offers accommodation for about 75€ per night as well. That is where I will be staying.
