Crazy combo I just thought of. Any thoughts?
Embrace the void + jade tetsubo
To be honest, I think it's a great combo, and I find myself wanting to throw together a deck that utilizes this trick. This type of thinking (generative) is only healthy for the game and ultimately leads to the rise of new meta decks. Nice work.
That combo works pretty well I would imagine. However, it would require Phoenix to splash Crab (I honestly do not see this happening to much, way better splashes for Phoenix) or more likely a Crab splash Phoenix deck. I often invest heavily into my high cost characters (I had Yunako with 4 fate on her today) and this type of loss would be devastating.
This came up shortly after Embrace the Void was spoiled, and I can confirm it's already been dev ruled as completely legit...and player ruled totally evil.
As fun as combos like this are......getting someone to play into it seems to be a bit of a gamble.

I agree, though I would love to see a Crab pull this off with Phoenix splashed.
Yeah, it was one of the first things I thought of. Beautifully eeevil.
I've pulled it off twice in a Crab-splashing-Phoenix deck. It's a good thing it requires two clans for anyone else to splash. It would be busted if Dragon could use both these cards.
Personally I dont see it being the big win you are all saying it would be as it relies too much on my opponent and what I have available on the board at a specific period of time. Step 1 - rely on my opponent to invest a bunch of spare fate on one specific character who also needs to have a military score low enough that I can bash him/her over the head with my Jade Tetsubo. Personally I have seen a lot of play that focuses more on spreading the fate out and not dumping it on one guy (unless of course that guy has a good strategic reason to keep them around for more than a couple rounds) and when they do they tend to have a rather high military score. Step 2 - drop Embrace the Void on that tasty target if I have a shugenja in play. Step 3 - Drop Jade Tetsubo on someone that has enough base military to use its printed ability against said tasty target. Step 4 - get the conflict action off without it getting canceled or redirected somehow. Seems like a lot of work, luck, dedicated deck space and stupidity by your opponent to get off what equates to some fate denial and a one time pay off (transfering the lost fate to your own pile).
I appreciate you pointing this out (to be honest I had not considered it) but I don't see it as the power game breaking combo that I need to overly concern myself with.
Edited by Novacaine2Considering Tetsubo gives you a +3, I don't see this being too difficult. The only part out of your control is waiting for your opponent to drop 2+ fate on a target for the payoff. After that, wait for them to get in combat, drop the tetsubo, drop the Embrace the Void (you can even do this early, since it's a natural target anyways, your opponent shouldn't expect you to definitely have a tetsubo in hand just because you Embraced), and profit. The real challenge is building a cohesive deck with enough Shugenja to cast Embrace the Void, and still be Crab/Phoenix. Crab's not been a great splash for phoenix in my experience, but I might have to give Stoic Gunso a shot some time.
Tetsubo is already 2 Influence each, throw in 3 Reprieve which is always a good choice and your at 7-9 influence depending on number of Tetsubos you run with.
