Lightsabers and good combats

By theclash24, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

In our group we have a demolitionist, a combat medic, droid tech and me a makashi dualist - running at about 200 earned exp

As the special snowflake in the group I’m waving a lightsaber - I EXPECT to get targeted because of that - but if the gm starts using munchkinism to combat me then I’ll swap to a different character.

If the opponents were sensible they would take out the demolitionist as he has a much higher damage output than me - but the natural reaction is to go for me which I have NO issue with

as my GM is active on these forums I’m not saying anything he wouldn’t be aware of :)

I'd recommend never to do this. The whole point of minions is to be a low level threat that the PCs can mo down, and to simplify bookkeeping for GMs. If you want separate ones, just use weak rivals.

It reeks (for me) of adversarial GM munchkinism.

It does reek, but it comes with some advantages over rivals. They can be easily on the fly adjusted, they can have rivals as their commanders base on the squad rules (someone forgot to give us squad rules when actually using rivals ;-)) and lastly they do shoot like ****, because small groups of minions miss a lot. Which feels good for the players, getting all those missed shots, being able to use your defensive talents and have them actually matter … that's the good stuff. So the core books themselves recommends minion groups of 3-4 iirc. :)

For fun i decided to make a Bounty Hunter specifically designed to take down Jedi and bring them back alive. I don't have the sheet in front of me, but he was a little something like this...

He was a Droid that was heavily customized. He had the Bounty Hunter Career with specializations to further customize his gadgets and abilities. He was not entirely me of Cortosis, but his hands were made of refined cortosis. He was also equipped with shock gauntlets. He would just get into their face, use his refined cortosis hands hands to deactivite a Jedi's lightsaber, disarm them, and then just knock them unconcious with strain. Being a Droid he was immune to mind tricks.
