OP - I took an MC80 assault cruiser to the semi finals of the European championships this year. My list was a high activation Ackbar list with no squads because squads don’t benefit from Ackbar. You can mess around and swap some corvettes for GR75s and squads of you want though.

My list was:

MC80 assault cruiser

defiance

ackbar

raymus antilles

Engine techs

ECM

EBD

enhanced armament

leading shots

Then 5 (five) naked CR90bs

basically it’s maximum Ackbar with maximum dice. The cr90’s take out flotillas have good blocking power and can Ackbar quite well. The MC80 is a bastard of the highest order and having such an activation advantage lets you choose when to use it.

in terms of making MC80s great, people have spotted they don’t manoeuvre well. Raymus plus engine techs sorts that out. Nav can means every other turn for extra yaw and use the nav token to trigger engine techs on the off turns. Suddenly you are a speed three highly manouverable double rammer. That helps a lot.

the main change I’d make with hindsight is switch the enhanced armament to XI7s. Against small targets you are one shotting them anyway, against large targets you need to nullify redirects and use your accs on braces. Then you can properly mess stuff up.

And until a better way of modifying dice comes along for them, you always take leading shots on MC80s. Blue dice always do something, but your main threat comes from loads of red dice which are Incredibly fickle. You absolutely need a re-roll chance for when you get a full broadside into the unshielded side of an ISD and you roll 3 blanks and 4 accuracies. Which happens a lot

assault frigate mark 2 b

gunnery team, x17 turbolasers

e wing, corran horn

2 identical gr-75 transports, comms net

mc 80 assault cruiser (flagship) with ackbar, advanced projectors, damage control officer, quad battery turrets OR x17 lasers, reinforced blast doors, defiance

3x x wings

rogue squadron

397 with quad batteries, 398 with x17 turbolasers

mc80 goes and chills as a relatively super tanky craft at blue range to get rerolls, and hopefully so ppl focus fire this over the other 3, the assault frigate will be concentrate firing at long range targeting 2 ships, softening the shields on a particular facing and ****, maybe some damage who knows. my fighters go wreck other fighters.

kinda wish I had flight controllers but I personally think it only works with the assault frigate is because it can fire twice

H1MC80 + Yavaris + 2x GR-75 + bombers.
