Ozzy's 7

By jimmyrut, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi all

I played with a similar fleet to this and am just chasing opinions and ways to improve it. Firstly, I'm by no means a competitive player at Armada, just trying to focus of bettering my navigation skills, and I feel this fleet really forces me to do that.

The fleet I played with today was:

Ozzy's 7

Faction: Galactic Empire
Points: 400/400

Commander: Admiral Ozzel

Assault Objective: Blockade Run
Defense Objective: Jamming Barrier
Navigation Objective: Superior Positions

Gladiator I-Class Star Destroyer (56 points)
- Demolisher ( 10 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Engine Techs ( 8 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)
= 83 total ship cost

Gladiator I-Class Star Destroyer (56 points)
- Insidious ( 3 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Engine Techs ( 8 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)
= 76 total ship cost

[ flagship ] Raider-I Class Corvette (44 points)
- Admiral Ozzel ( 20 points)
- Admiral Montferrat ( 5 points)
= 69 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)
= 25 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)

Arquitens-class Light Cruiser (54 points)
- Turbolaser Reroute Circuits ( 7 points)
= 61 total ship cost

Oddly enough, when I totalled up the points value in the Android fleet app I came out with a different points value so that's something I have to check up on. Either way, it didn't change the outcome of the games today. The first game, I just ran circles around my opponent and although I didn't scratch his two VSD's, I was able to take out his Raider and Gozanti. Second game however was different and I played poorly and right into his hands only having 4 ships left.

I'm not sure I like the Arquitens, they just don't seem the 'gel' with my play style so I'd be happy to drop them both and add in another Raider. Also, I understand in order to get the most mileage out of Demolisher then I need to optimise the build with some sort of initiative bid. I'd love to add something tanky, but unfortunately none of those options have the speed to keep up with the rest of the fleet.

Lastly, I'm not sold on the objectives. Although Jamming Barrier was really fun to play around with, I'm not sure it provides much of an advantage to my fleet being a double edged sword.

After the two games, I've toyed around a bit and come up with the following which I don't know if it is an improvement at all:

Ozzy's 6

Faction: Galactic Empire
Points: 385/400

Commander: Admiral Ozzel

Assault Objective: Blockade Run
Defense Objective: Fire Lanes
Navigation Objective: Superior Positions

Gladiator I-Class Star Destroyer (56 points)
- Demolisher ( 10 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Engine Techs ( 8 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)
= 83 total ship cost

Gladiator I-Class Star Destroyer (56 points)
- Insidious ( 3 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Engine Techs ( 8 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)
= 76 total ship cost

[ flagship ] Raider-I Class Corvette (44 points)
- Admiral Ozzel ( 20 points)
- Admiral Montferrat ( 5 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- External Racks ( 3 points)
= 76 total ship cost

Raider-I Class Corvette (44 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- External Racks ( 3 points)
= 51 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)
= 25 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)
= 25 total ship cost

1 Morna Kee ( 27 points)
1 VT-49 Decimator ( 22 points)

A lot of changes. I've dropped the Arquitens (and an activation), added a Raider, and added in two Decimators or a tiny bit of squadron presence and I love them. :) I've got a decent bid this time for the purpose of Demo shenanigans and have ditched Jamming Barrier for Fire Lanes instead. Still, I'm sure there is tonnes of things which can be improved upon whilst staying true to the speed of the fleet.

Looking forward to any comments.

Thanks chaps.

Fleet looks good, if you are wanting to add some bulk I can suggest tua and Eelectronic Counter Measures on Demolisher. Makes it incredibly slippery.

Objectives are still.... Off. Both fire lanes and superior positions backfire spectacularly if you face an opponent with strategic (to move the tokens for fire lanes away from you) or a large fighter contingent that will quickly turn superior positions against you.

For the blue, solar corona gives the same benefit as superior positions with less backfire as the gladiator can't generate accuracies anyway.

For the yellow, capture the VIP gives safe points as you can have the ozzel raider grab it and fly off into the sunset for a nice chunk of bonus points.

Regarding your red obj, you have a potential score of 120 on blockade. But because your opponent scores against you it goes down double time. If you lose one ship the point gain is 80, two its 40, and 3 you just break even.

That means the onus is on you to take very very minimal losses, there is no such thing as "trading up" in blockade run. This makes it hard to eke out wins. With a gozanti in your fleet there is no reason not to run most wanted.

Looks like a fun fleet! The only change is make would be the squadrons, as you currently are paying 49 points for two squads (with heavy)... I’d consider swapping for 4 interceptors (or Three interceptors + Valen). The gozantis can easily throw those in to pin squads in place so that your raider can zoom in and throw double black without retaliation before jamming out again.

Edit: Brobafett also makes great points above regarding objectives. Also, tua/ECM does indeed make Demo hardier, but Intel Officer makes him that much more deadly vs ships. Sort of an offense vs defense thing

Morna isn't heavy :)

But you know I'm a fan of Morna so I wasn't going to say anything to the OP about that.

Convention says Mando is absolutely right. Ciena/Valen, interceptors/vanen, generic ties/valen would all be good ways to fill up that cap and get an extra deployment and more presence in the squad aspect of the game.

Thanks for the replies gents. I do appreciate it.

@BrobaFett you've raised some very valid points and I'll apply those going forward. Thanks for the corrections on the objectives, makes much more sense. So with the changes both you and @MandalorianMoose have proposed I've now got something looking like this:

Ozzy's 6
Author: jimmyrut

Faction: Galactic Empire
Points: 391/400

Commander: Admiral Ozzel

Assault Objective: Most Wanted
Defense Objective: Capture the VIP

- Minister Tua ( 2 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Engine Techs ( 8 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)
= 92 total ship cost

Gladiator I-Class Star Destroyer (56 points)
- Insidious ( 3 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Engine Techs ( 8 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)
= 76 total ship cost

[ flagship ] Raider-I Class Corvette (44 points)
- Admiral Ozzel ( 20 points)
- Admiral Montferrat ( 5 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- External Racks ( 3 points)
= 76 total ship cost

Raider-I Class Corvette (44 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- External Racks ( 3 points)
= 51 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)
= 25 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)

= 25 total ship cost

1 Valen Rudor ( 13 points)
3 TIE Interceptor Squadrons ( 33 points)

I could go either way on the squadron builds as I love the fact of just adding 16 hit points which are annoying but at the same time I realise there is merit in @MandalorianMoose suggestion in tying up enemy squadrons then sending a Raider in.

I'll have to have a few more games with it and then report back.

Thanks for the suggestions gents.
