Maybe, instead of X-Wing ... Spitfyre!

By Hawkstrike, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I don't know much about the rules, but this looks like a hysterical beer-and-pretzels aerial combat minis game:

Spitfyre: Aerial Combat in the skies of Panzerfäuste

What's not to like about orcs flying Spitfire/dragons vs. dwarves on Me109/eagles? The theme of this alt-WWII has me rolling.

D&D Attack wing was surprisingly good fun, I must admit.

I have recently found nice and old school Check Your 6! Ruleset which is openly historical. Very nice, I have played one game with our historical wargaming club and it was awesome! I immediately bought 4 Spitfires!

Wings of glory uses a veeeeery similar system to X-wing, with cards for movements instead of templates, and is also WWI and WWII accurate.

I've tried WoG WWII and liked it, though I thought the chit damage system was kind of dumb. The card maneuver system worked well, though.

Too hard to find the game. I was at a major convention when I tried it, and if they'd had the starter box I'd have bought it and a number of expansions, but no go -- so no sale.

Spitfyre looks to be of value just for the humor in the setting.

It's pretty much the original 'source concept' for X-wing, as I understand it.

There's also a Warlord Games WWII game either out or coming out called Blood Red Skies

[in the next month or so, just checked]

Uhmmmmm... thanks for the info, i will keep an eye on it.

Let's hope it's not too complex.

It doesn't look so, given the play aids in the box.

It's an Andy Chambers game (him of Battlefleet Gothic) so it's probably worth a look.

The rules are apparently free. It looks fairly simple - there's altitude (sort of) but it's represented by having an 'advantage' token (i.e. "I am above the fight") that you then spend to dive in at speed
