Lets analyse threat range - Toryn

I have seen a few comments about that Toryn doesnt really help with flak as black dice already have 0.75% chance of 1 damage, identical to Toryn boosted blues....

The following pictures are based on the:

Green: Expected damage is <0.75, this range is considered safe and will not kill an Tie Fighter over the course of a game
Yellow : Expected damage is >0.75, this range is relatively safe but will kill an Tie Fighter if given enough time (3-4 turns)
Mustard/ light orange :Expected damage is about 1.5, a little more severe then yellow
Orange: expected damage 2.25, not safe, a Tie Fighter will probably be killed in two turns
Red : expected damage 3, dangerous, a Tie Fighter will likely die in a single turn at this range
Dark red: expected damage 3.75+, Very dangerous

Just look at the ranges on those, and the killing zone created.

I love the concept of this and tried something similar back in the mid-Wave 4 days, but it was lackluster due to my poor flying of it. 19 points is also a sticker shock, 6 per flotilla over the base cost, 7 for Toryn. How do you fly this to get the best use out of it? I was trying to use it in an Mc30 fleet and they usually ended up too far away from the kill zone to be benefited by the flak support.

Toryn is a beast, she is probably the best officer upgrade in the game because of all the circumstances she is good in. Blue Flack becomes amazing you get the consistency of black dice at medium range, most all fighters get more consistent damage output, and she can help you with ship to ship combat as well. Shes the whole package deal.

Yup. It offended me.

It's ridiculous anyone would say that. Blue AA is strictly better because you have so much more range and Toryn makes it almost 75% to hit.

I don't agree. Without something to boost that blue AA (like Toryn or another blue), in my experience that die only help in the squadron battle covering a bigger area and affecting engagement play. That is good of course and in some circumstances could be better but for AA purposes black is obviously stronger. If you bring some kind of screen and play it in certain way blue could be invaluable, sometimes they are not.

When you add that and/or another blue you get the best of both worlds (range and damage) so yeah, Toryn is the best.

I prefer blue range over black because I don't have to let the squads get close. 25% less to hit, but much larger threat range.
