Bane's Towing Co.

By Praetorate of the Empire, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm an Imperial player, but I was toying about with some janky Scum stuff. Has anyone tried Cad Bane on a Quadjumper? It looks like it would be a nuisance! Here's what I was thinking:

  • Sarko Plank (18) [28]
    • Cad Bane (2)
    • Bomblet Generator (3)
    • Spacetug Tractor Array (2)
    • Pattern Analyzer? (2)
    • VI (1)

If I'm parsing this correctly, this should be able to do some serious shenanigans as a support ship or jank bomber. I think that Sarko is the most survivable pilot, but I'm very unfamiliar with the Quadjumper and see too many similarities to the TIE Bomber to want to really load it up.

You are absolutely correct in your comparison. It has the potential to be epically good, but an experienced opponent will focus it down before it even has a chance to try anything. Give them something scarier, something nastier to look at, and maybe Sarco sneaks in and does some hurt. Maybe a second Quad on the super-cheap as a wingman, and some ordnance carriers?

Another consideration: Alongside a ship with Ketsu Onyo crew, this could be cruel. The question becomes whether or not ships can receive multiple Tractor Beam tokens to further reduce agility.

Yes, each additional Tractor Beam token reduces agility by 1, but only the first allows you to move the ship.

Interesting. I think that the Spacetug Tractor Array is pretty powerful since you can give an enemy ship a Tractor Beam token during the activation phase. Their evasion is reduced, they get moved... I already was a fan of Tractor Beam shenanigans, especially on TIE/D Defenders, but this is delightfully different...

Its fun, certainly, the only problem is when you run into something like a Jumpmaster or Falcon. You can't move them, and at that distance they are likely to eat at least 1 Quadjumper.

I guess it depends on how crazy obnoxious one would want to play. I decided that one of the best wingmen for this would be Torkil Mux. :) It would be kind of rude.

Actually one of my favorite builds is the good Constable with Bane, Bomblet, Spacetug, Pattern Analyzer, PTL and illicit to taste.

Dropping a bomblet, going backwards and still having the capability to take a focus. Obviously you won't use PTL on the same turn you go backwards unless you really need the action, but for other turns when you move like normal being able to tractor and focus is essential to keeping the ship alive. And at 31 points with PTL (which can be swapped with something else for taste to save points) its quite fun to mess around with. Like most quadjumpers it dies quickly when focused or hit really hard, but if you can keep it around for a round or two its a crazy random threat that can do so much stuff to mess up your enemy's flight plan.

Best,

Cow

Big fan of the bouncing bumblebees known as Quadjumpers here. There are many very fun ways to load those little guys up, but I think the key is keeping this in mind: if you load it up at all effectively, a good opponent WILL kill it first. They WILL wreck face otherwise. So, treat it kind of like a more functional Biggs, and have a list that can take advantage of the few turns before the QJ goes down to get into a good place to finish off your opponent.

However, I do think that a) Zuvio is a more potent bomber and b) Sarco doesn't make VI worth it.
