The No Paradox Tournament

By Rogue Dakotan, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

I might have proposed this before, but would this format be fun for a tournament? I'm thinking the more players, the more fun it would be.

  • All deployment cards are considered to be unique.
  • Before the deploy forces step, defeat all figures belonging to deployments cards that have the same name in your opponent's team.

I'd just be curious to see what people would bring. Makes for weird midn games with list building.

I like this idea for a fun tournament. Could make for some interesting games.

When we set up our 4 player skirmish games, we agree to team up using one faction vs another. Each teammate cannot bring the same unique figures.

Also, this is format of our next tournament:

Upcoming Friendly Themed Tournament at For The Win Cafe

Hello dear IA players,

We are thinking of hosting our next friendly IA tournament on Sunday, December 3.

Here is the theme, in the never-ending galactic battle between the rebellion and the empire, your ship (along with several other ships) was shut down and has fallen onto a planet with unknown territory. Your technology as malfunctioning and due to some unexplained circumstances none of your ranged weapon are working.

Scenario:

1. Melee or support characters only. No ranged weapons.

2. You are allowed to take a support figure like the officer, Jawa, or alliance smuggled but they cannot make any ranged attacks during the game. They are allowed to make a ranged attack while being adjecent to a figure (as if it was a melee attack). If you really want to, you can take any other figure but their attack pool will be converted to a melee attack.

3. Unknown territory - we will be playing on maps that no one has played on before. I will provide the mats.

4. Variations of fun lists are encouraged. Lets see some Wampas, Rancors, Gamorrean Guards, Wookiee Warriors, Davith, Vader, Shyla...

It does seem like it needs a lot of players to work. With a small number of players, some other mechanic might be in order.

I like the fact that it encourages weird lists, but it doesn't penalize anybody too heavily if they end up with a list somewhat similar to their opponent (since both players lose the same figures).

In fact, if you and your opponent were really on the same wavelength I'd imagine that starting a game with 20 pt armies or whatever could make for a somewhat tense and interesting experience.
