Wave 1 complete? and wave 2 speculation.

By Tonytt1642, in Star Wars: Legion

Cant wait till release date. Thought i would ask the community a few questions to kill the time till.... sometime in 2018 :)

We have seen the core set expansions, ATST and speeder. Do people belive that is all we are getting in wave 1? As great as it is, that will not give us too muh variety for the intial games. How long do you think the spacing between waves will be? do you thnk FFG will stick to the wave system or go for more broader releases?.

And the fun part!! What do you guys and girls think we will get in wave 2? I persoanlly think a "big" kit for either side (X Wing Tie Fighter, something along those lines), generic commanders and some elite infantry. Rebel Commandos and Deathstar Troopers. Let us know what you think.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they filled out the unit types, so a Special Forces unit and the other one (can’t remember off the top of my head, Support? Or is that the ATST category?) for each faction, but I also don’t expect it. I think what they’ve announced gives you enough to build a couple of different 800 pt lists for each side, so there’s no rush particularly. What I would like to see Wave 1 is another commander for each side, though. That is the single biggest limit on list variance right now.

As for the release schedule going forward, I’d look at RuneWars for a steer. I’m not following it closely, but it seems like they’re either releasing a bunch of stuff for a new army (which remains to be seen for Legion) or a couple of counterpoint units, one for each faction, released at a time. I don’t think they’ll do the same ‘wave’ concept for releases as they do for the other SW minis games. That won’t stop people referring to it as such, but I don’t think that is a great way of describing their RuneWars release schedule.

I don't think we'll ever see any star fighter's in this game and I do think they they will hold off on anything "big" until they feel the need for a new game mode.

I expect after wave one they will start by giving us additional options for each section of the force org and then if rune wars is any indication, we'll probably see new armies being introduced.

I don't think wave one is filled out just yet. There will be a few more closer to release in my opinion. Probably another commander for each side and some scout units. Special forces like Death Troopers I'm sure will not be seen until wave 2.

I think what has been announced will be everything dropping with the Core Set. After that, I don't think we'll have "waves" to worry about. Every indication (like comments from Alex Davey and the Rune Wars release schedule) is that this game will have a relatively steady trickle of releases (a new model or two every four to six weeks) rather than the X-Wing/Armada/IA model of a large wave of new content followed by many months of quiet.

I do think the next couple of expansions to be announced will be more Commanders and some units for the Special Forces slot, but I don't think those will be "Wave 1" releases or "Wave 2" releases. They'll just be the first of many regular releases after launch.

Agree with the commanders and special forces slots. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see either versions of ia counterparts (imperial security droids and rangers/sabetours) or units concepts borrowed from battlefront 2/ star wars commander (jump troops/wookie commandos)

To those saying there is a second slot missing that's a no, speeder bike and the at rt are support slots.

Thank you, it was something nagging in the back of my mind, but I couldn’t quite remember what it was!

I think your right, think we will see at least one option for each slot before the core set drops.

I expect it'll be like Runewars with Staggered Releases over a broader time frame.

I'm expecting a set of 3 or 4 (hopefully) new Stormtrooper/rebel sculpts with a set of upgrade cards that allow you to field the corps units at more varying unit strengths

The "trooper" upgrade slot now only has the one "add 1 stormtrooper/rebel" card.

By including cards with "add 2", "add 3" etc, at mayby slightly reduced cost if needed to make it valid, they can add this option to tweak your tactical choices within the way their upgrade methode works.

depends on when /if they decide to add factions. I could totally see both "wave" and staggered working for just the gcw stuff, but if they expand to more staggered will become the norm.

That said i'm still really skeptical about TCW forces given how much that backs them into a corner for crossover with the clones/rebels (which is what most other "big battle" star wars media do) .

Alex mentioned Commander Leia, Spec Ops Scout Troopers, and Heavy AT-ST/T-47.

Half of those have been announced for Wave 1. So, I'd be a little surprised if the other half aren't also, but it'd be reasonable for Wave 1 to be Troopers/Heavy/Support, and Wave 2 to be Commanders/SpecOps, assuming a wave 2 within a few months of release.

Game's probably not out until late February or March, so there's time for announcements yet, but the printers are also probably running full time for the holidays.

Sadly, nothing from the First Order - which means I won't be joining the Legion for a while.

I suspect that we have our "Wave 1" launch units and expansions, however I think the Spec Op units and a second commander for each faction are not far behind. I'm hoping for more than that in a second wave. Or they just ditch waves all together since there will hopefully be several new units per side each year.

I think after a year or two we will either see First Order / Resistance, or Galactic Republic / Separatists. I also still suspect that special units might be characters that don't fit the commander role (Boba Fett, as an example).

2 years would be the perfect time frame for Resitance and First Order since the current trilogy would be coming to a close in theaters.

Special Units being single characters is brilliant! “Special Units” could be a broad spectrum for Units that break the normal rules or range or special abilities varying fr M unit to unit.

I don't think wave 1 is complete, they spoke about 1 more commander for each side.

Wave 1 is basically Luke v Vader.

I kinda hope wave 2 is either Han v Boba Fett. This option would probably flesh out the original trilogy units some more. But it could be Rey v Kylo. In that case I would expect to see some First order stuff.

I would prefer that the Bounty Hunters show up as special forces. They were never really part of the Empire, and as such would never be leading an army. An interesting implementation would be to have the Bounty Hunters be special forces that could be used by either side as the New Republic in the aftermath books used bounty hunters to help find members of the Imperial remnant.

We won’t see first order/resistance unto every possible unit/character for the original trilogy is used.

Yep, this is 100% what I was thinking as well. There are plenty of canon instances where Bounty Hunters are hired by either the "good guys" or the "bad guys".

I've expressed this is other threads, but I very much hope that long term this is a game of 7 factions. Republic and Separatists, Rebels and Empire, Resistance and First Order. The final faction will be a "neutral" faction... characters such as Bounty Hunters, Smugglers, Criminal Organizations, Jawas, Tuskens, Ewoks, Gungans, etc. This 7th faction will feature characters that will fit into any army at all. They are essentially neutral. So I could use the same Bounty Hunter in my First Order team as someone else uses in their Republic team.

So each faction can avail of their own exclusive units, as well as any neutral units. Commanders will ALWAYS be faction specific (no neutral commanders) and Neutral Units will almost always fit the "specialist" role (which limits the amount of neutral units you can include in your army).

I'm sure that's not what FFG are thinking... but I can dream!

I don't think this is true. As they expand the game they are never going to want to "finish" a faction. They are going to want to always be releasing new pieces and units. However, I think they will also look to expand the number of factions. Meaning that as they add new armies, they will still be expanding the original armies.

I think and hope this game is only 2 factions. Leave the crappy prequels and the new trilogy out of this game.

I think we'll see new commanders and spec ops soon, be it wave 1 or soon after. What im reallllllly hoping for is a Scum type faction sooner rather than later. A faction that can grow along with the other 2. Theres so much than can go into this design space, I hope they dont try to cram it into Imps or Rebels, or worse yet a neutral faction.

A big part of the SW films are the monsters.

It was mentioned in another thread some time ago, but random creature encounters would make for some interesting moments during a battle: Do you try and fight your opponent or the rampaging Wampa, a band of Tusken raiders or Ewoks this turn? So, a creature pack might make it into wave 2. It would certainly make the game more Star Warsy to me.

If FFG doesn't do it, some community group/house rules are certainly called for.

want to see a typical platoon equal in STORMIES!!........heavy weapons, mortars, fire supporters, squad assault weaponiers, grenadiers, sappers, regimental scouts, longrange scouts, riflemen, medics, snipes, radiomen......
