Question from over at Cthulhu

By johnny shoes, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

ia! and Greetings from the cthulhu boards, the only game that matters. Hope all goes well over here cycles into your LCG world. I bet LCG hit harder here, where the game was never in the trouble it was over in the mythos.

We'll be getting our Secrets of Arkham special expansion soon, always behind you all. Be nice to your little brother. You guys have two out so far. It looks like one came with a house resin thingy and one without, one with 100 cards, one with 50. We're hoping for at least 10 new cards as part of the 100, in addition to the 10 story cards. For reference, what were the specifics of your two expansions? Thanks for any response.

Winter is here, but when's the next book coming?

Keep in mind that the 100 card expansion was actually a 50 card expansion with 2 copies of each card.

Both expansions had about 10 new cards with the rest being reprints (or modified reprints).

Most of the plot cards were reprints, but plots are not entirely analogous to story cards, so who knows. The trend over here would imply that it is unlikely that 10 entirely new story cards would be part of the expansion, though.

Not even remotely the right place to be asking that question. Try www.georgerrmartin.com.

Thanks ktom, helpful to know there were about ten new cards and modified reprints.

Still interested to know if there were any other items in the box besides the one carved house thingy.

Thanks for not even remotely comprehending the nuance of my final statement / question. I was obviously just trying to relate. Newbs are treated with a touch more grace over at cthulhu. Still, I appreciate the information and any expansion on it that could still be made.

AGoT Newbs are treated with a great deal of respect, enthusiasm and grace over here, too.

I did comprehend your statement about the next book just fine. I apologize if you feel ill-treated by my response underscoring what you already knew - that this is not the place to find an answer to that question and (what you may not have already known) is not a topic that is generally discussed in relation to the game.

The expansions did not include other items. The first one did include a resin House card, but since there was only 1 copy of each card in that set, it was almost universally seen as an annoyance that increased the price for people feeling the need to buy three copies for deck customization purposes. Very few AGoT players felt the need to own 3 resin House cards. The second set (the 100 card one) addressed these community concerns by providing 2 copies of each card at a lower price by removing the extra item(s). The resin House card associated with the second expansion set was sold as a separate item - not unlike the "Bag of Cthulhu" accessories.

The expansions did include alternate rules for different ways to play the game ("Civil War," "Kingsmoot," etc.). Such a possibility may exist with CoC, too.

ktom, thank you again, and this time for a most complete answer.

I admit my response was a bit much. I am sorry.

Thanks again for the complete answer. I will post the details on the other boards. I think we'll find them interesting.

Things Agot n00bs need to know...

1. Ktom is never rude, (the fact that he has the patience to put up with me 3 days out of the year also testifies to his character). Remember the boards lack the body lanaguage/nuances speaking in the meat has.

2. Stag Lord is not trying to imitate great Cthulhu when typing... :-P

3. To generally ignore my posts :-P

Although ktom is rude quite often. He's just very rarely intending to be cruel.

LOL

Maybe you should start letting folks know when those "very rarely" occasions occur? gran_risa.gif

I just want to make sure it's clear that you should not actually do this. I'm pretty sure that every time someone asks GRRM that question it adds at least five minutes to the time until the book is actually finished. Judging by his blog, it does seem like he has been making good progress recently though (the length of chapters he considers finished is now longer than all the previous books other than A Storm of Swords).

Stag Lord can always imitate Cthulhu by going all Great Old One on your ass.

Wait... does that mean you're playing Greyjoy next?

I think the real brow raiser is that people are still asking the question. Granted he still has ten or so more years before he tops Stephen King and his Dark Tower series (1982 - 2004)

Of, the course, the catch there is that King finally got off his duff and realized that the needed to finish his magnum opus before he passed away. I see little evidence so far that Martin will do the same.
