Fiction for honour and glory

I said " laying the foundation for what will become the Second Yasuki War", not " kickstart the Second Yasuki War". A Crab-Crane war, if it happens, might be long after the Crane and Lion have settled the ownership of Toshi Ranbo.

Don't worry the Lion and Crane will always find a reason to be at each others throats

I know this might sound weird since I'm a Dragon, but this fiction has gotten me really hopeful that we might see the Mantis become a fully-fledged Great Clan someday. If they did, they might very well take over Phoenix's spot as my second favorite. There's something I love about the idea of a clan full of bad *** mercenaries, criminals, and pirates in green armor, but I just can't put my finger on it...

Either we are a recognized Minor Clan and the prohibition against warring on Minor Clans is working in our favor(Bwahaha)

Or we aren't currently recognized and the Crane and Imperial Bureaucracy are so weak that they can't deal with a rogue Clan (What's that? Lost the Blessings of the Heavens?).

Kinda makes me wonder if we got 'disbanded' after the Gusai Incident.

Side note: Isn't there a prohibition on war against Great Clans too? I know the Crane and the Lion are fighting over Toshi Ranbo, but for some reason I was under the impression that inter-clan warfare was technically illegal and that this border dispute was being excused by calling it some other legal-ese.

If one Clan feels that another Clan has slighted them, and that war is the only possible way to resolve things, they have to petition the Imperial Court for permission to wage war. So the kerfuffle between the Lion and Crane is actually sanctioned by the Emperor, so long as they keep a lid on things and adhere to certain rules.

As per Dave on facebook, the Lion/Crane dispute is not technically a war- hence the pressure on Toturi to actually declare war instead of just... killing each other in army-sized chunks as a "limited police action."

Finally read.

Probably just because of Game of Thrones but the "Outside supernatural threat will doom us all because everyone behind the wall is too busy doing political backstabbing" is getting tiresome. I know it is a trope from L5R's beginnings, but evil is scarier when everyone is making good decisions and they are still threatened.

That is the historical point in the L5R story we are telling though. It's a 20 year old story plot at this point. No way around telling this story plot without completely reinventing what L5R is and what the Crab clan's problems are through much of it's history. I am of course like many people hoping for a lot of variation in the way it plays out.

I'm guessing Yoritomo threw a sack over Taka's head to:

1) be very dramatic about it and

2) probably take him to a secret location and he doesn't know if he can trust Taka yet.

I'm fairly certain that this is moving down the path of a Crab/Mantis alliance. I'm okay with that. They are literally brothers from another mother.

You win the L5R forums for the day!!! :D

Crab and Mantis being friendly was one of the the only constants in the old lore... even in the Progressive/Traditionalist schism where they were on opposite sides, they had no appreciable friction demonstrated.
