Recommendations for ship to add to imperial s

By Ahjmcn, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right place for this but I'm interested in recommendations for additions to my casual imperials collection. At the moment I've got imperial aces, core set and a bomber. I was thinking maybe a tie advanced or striker for an aces style list. Mainly want something fun to fly that isn't overly punishing for mistakes. Suggestions?

It's always a good idea to buy the separate expansions for the aces packs / core set, to get everything for the ships you already own.

- TIE Fighter exp pack gives you Howlrunner, who has a strong support ability for TIE swarms.

- TIE Interceptor exp pack gives your Soontir Fel, the greatest Interceptor pilot ever.

- Imperial Veterans will add you more options for your bomber, plus you get a TIE Defender with title cards and a great pilot (Countess Ryad). It's recommended to get the separate TIE Defender exp pack too, after Imp Vets.

- TIE Phantom is awesome.

- TIE Advanced Prototype (Inquisitor's TIE) is also pretty good.

- TIE Punisher exp pack gives you tons of new stuff for your Bombers to play with. Too bad the Punisher itself is mediocre, but it can be fun to use in casual games. IMHO the cards you get from the pack are worth the purchase, and maybe later the Punisher itself will become better as new upgrade cards come out with each new expansion.

To be honest, Defenders are a touch easier to fly well because they have much more survivability than your standard shieldless TIE variant. The same goes for the Inquisitor's TIE. As for the TIE Advanced, Vader is a really good pilot but the ship itself needs upgrades from the Imperial Raider expansion to become really good. Otherwise it's just an X-Wing with 1 more agility and 1 less attack. Strikers are fun to fly because of how they move, but they aren't very forgiving for mistakes or bad positioning. If you really like standard TIE Fighters, the Imperial Assault Carrier exp pack gives you 2 more, as well as a cool looking ship for Epic play. I do recommend trying out Epic sometime it's great fun in casual games.

I can also recommend the First Order TIEs, both the TIE/FO and the TIE/SF are pretty good ships.

These two. Countess Ryad in the Defender with TIE/x7 is almost ready to go out of the box, just add Push the Limit from your Imp Aces Box. She's super forgiving, really tough to kill, **** near impossible to block - a great starter ship that's also pretty reasonable as far as competitive play goes.

You also get Tomax Bren as a TIE Bomber pilot and Crackshot in Imperial Veterans. He's fine as is, but much better if you can get a copy of Lightweight Frame. It comes with the TIE Striker, but you'll be able to proxy it (print a copy or something) in any but the most competitive settings.

The TIE/fo will give you Omega Leader, Juke and Comm Relay also right out of the box, and again, a tough little ship with a great competitive history.

Put those three together and you have twelve spare points. Pop an Academy Pilot TIE Fighter from your core set (assuming you have the original red core, not The Force Awakens core set*) and you have a 100 point Imperial list that's honestly probably reasonably competitive if you practice with it a little, but could also be brought to a casual night and nobody would be upset about netlisting it broken combos or anything.

*If you have the blue Force Awakens core set, you won't have any Academy Pilots. You can get one in the TIE Fighter expansion pack, or you can rejig the list a little, though it's a little tough given what you have. Perhaps forget Omega Leader and go with Carnor Jax in the TIE Interceptor from your Imperial Aces with Push the Limit, the Royal Guard title, a proxy copy of the Autothrusters card and a Shield Upgrade? Carnor is unfortunately not a particularly forgiving or easy ship to fly though, so if it were me I would probably grab the TIE Fighter expansion - they're quite easy to find and generally pretty cheap as they're from the early days of the game.

may be of help

Agreed, Tie Phantoms, while expensive in terms of points, are great.

I'd say Imp Vets and/or TIE SF. Ryad's defender is easy and fun to fly. TIE SF is tough but you would need upgrades you currently don't have. Both of these ships still finds a place in most of my lists.

Cheers for all the replies, i like the look of the tie sf as something a but different to what I've got i figure i might go with with and proxy some cards

TIE SF is one of the best ships (balance and fun wise) in the game. It's versatile to be ordnance, support (Target Synch), or ace. Been flying it a year now non-stop in just about every imperial build I do. I have three of them and triple S/Fs is one of my favorite lists.
