Hohoho, Akodo Kaede!

It looks like Toturi is setting himself up to shoulder all of the empire again, as Emerald Champion this time. We'll see who his opponents will be in the tournament. I do find it odd that even the Ikoma Daimyo seems to be trying to push him out of the leadership role.

Is the Daimyo referring to Toturi in his thoughts or is he considering Toshiro? 0T9HMOe.jpg

Akodo Kage and Kakita Toshimoko confirmed!

Toshimoko was confirmed in Her Father's Daughter...

Kakita Toshimoko greatest duelist EVAR confirmed!

Toturi: mumbles under his breath... "Kolat says what"

Kage: "What"

Toturi: "Ah-ha! Guards seize him"

Kage: "You cannot hold a kolat forever. Taka will come for me........ahhh crud. "

So I can put Kaede in my Lion deck now? :)

Patience, soon we'll have Toturi the Emerald Champion, a neutral Imperial character with kick-*** abilities, and all will bow before the might of the Imperial/Phoenix deck.

Just to clarify, Ujiaki isn't the daimyo, at least not at this point in the storyline. However, I've been saying all along, I'm pretty sure the Ikoma, at the very least Eiji (though now I really suspect Ujiaki's involvement as well), were behind hiring the ronin that attacked the Crane village and captured Kuwanan to present him to Tsuko. Now it seems Ujiaki is intentionally pushing other influential figures (Matoko) to turn against Toturi. Let's also not forget that the Ikoma were behind the marriage proposal to Shinjo Altarleaver, which would have forced her out of her champion position as well as slighted Asako Akari, the rightful wife of the Ikoma daimyo. Seems there's an Ikoma behind every sneaky deal involving the Lion clan right now, and they all seem to point to conquest and war within the clans.

The Ikoma practice blood magic too - and a new character was recently spoiled, Ikoma Daigotsu. Interesting, we'll see how this plays out...

Oh - sorry, no. I was just wishing...

I liked the story alot.

But it makes me a bit sad that the card game doesn't reflect the stories very well (if at all).

I don't know if it was an inspiration, but I remember Ikoma Ujiaki from the Thousand Years of Darkness. He accepted Fu Leng's claim as the rightful Emperor, got corrupted, and his quote, if I remember correctly was: ''One cannot stand in the shadows forever.''

Maybe this is an Ikoma plot to take over the leadership of the Lion, or something far more sinister...

Never read any O5R fiction. How did he shoulder the empire before?

Well, he became Emperor Toturi I after Hantei XXXIX, or Fu Leng, was slain by the Seven Thunders.

Man, this story actually kind of made me like a Lion.

It should be burned.

What do you mean? We are in the first cycle, what should reflect?

It's never really going to be possible to have the stories and the game in perfect sync. If you try, then you slap a huge constraint on one, the other, or both. Characters will die in the fictions, but still have cards. Characters will be introduced in the fictions because they serve a particular dramatic purpose, but not have cards (they may eventually, but it could be quite some time after the fiction before they do i.e. Kakita Toshimoko). That said, the one way in which the story and game WILL be in pretty good sync will be after major events. As we've seen, a choice can be made at GenCon or Worlds, and the story demonstrating that choice can be published literally the next day (because the choices, at least so far, have been pretty binary--the winner can choose A or B--so it's easy to have a story ready to go for either choice). This is one way in which the story is easier to manage than it was for AEG...they often had much more open-ended choices, making it harder to have something immediately ready to go.

Best to think of the story as a sort of "dramatic framework" or "setting" for the game (or games, because we know there's an RPG and a board game coming), with one influencing the other, but otherwise being separate things.

I wonder if name dropping Hatsuko as the server at the sake house means she'll play a role again... I mean Toturi did make it to marriage this time! But that doesn't mean he can have a girl on the side, right?

Usually I'd say of course not. Marriage is an arrangement, you can love someone else, just be discreet so you don't shame your spouse.

That being said, he actually seems to like his wife....

This is probably one of my favorite stories so far. I just want to say well done to the story team for continuing to push for better content with each story update.

To be honest, I was pretty underwhelmed by the story written for Lion after the world championship win. This story however, is written much better. There is some inner-clan intrigue, character development, and insight into the culture and customs of Rokugan. It sets the stage for a really cool change in the lore, and is more atmospheric than most fictions, really making you feel like you are there. I loved it.

Kaede + Toturi actually makes sense in this version, and that story when they were kids is adorable. I was hoping for some way for Toturi to actually show us what all his calculations and thinking can do for Lion, and it seems like he won't get that chance for a little while, but I am super excited to see if he can take that Emerald Championship.

He also tried to preempt civil war before that by taking the throne as regent after the Scorpion Clan Coup.

Pity there was an Imperial heir left...

Very pleased to see the union of Toturi and Kaede depicted so gracefully.
